Yeah, the "private training" thing just sounded so...gay.

I wonder if there's some sort of black tower equivalent to pillow friends.

The only reasonable alternative to the "real" MPD theory would be that he was taught by Ishy (only person available given the time line). And Taim just seems to be a regular high level DF/possible FS, not one of Moridin's puppets, he is still by himself after all and he carries out general orders like "let the lord of chaos rule", while taking action that would seem to be counter to Ishy's wishes.

Bah this sucks, I read them last winter and it was awesome cos I had so many theories based of all the little hints and such and now I can't bloody remember any of them. I might actually have to read them again For example I haven't got the slightest clue who Beidomon is... the name isn't even ringing any bells. As for who killed Asmodeon. Err..... Tam. Thats who I'm going with. Not due to the only bullshit reason I can come up with, which actually requires the intervention of time travel to be feasible, but purely because Tam is made of own and needs more damn book time. Plus we're assuming there actually is going to be a book..

Oh and if people are recommending books, then I know I've said it before, but reading Steven Erikson's Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Puts everything else I've read to shame.

^ is it High Fantasy? It probably is, nevermind. Does anyone else believe that Egwene was right about Rand all along, that he is infact a woolheaded fool? His judgements make me wonder at times, especially all the leeway he gives to Aes Sedai.

By the success of this thread, I would say about five people on stoptazmo actually read fantasy. I wonder what could be a more popular read than fantasy to 13-27 year olds, other than comics.

"I once saw a man hanging from a cliff. The brink was crumbling beneath his fingers, and the only thing near enough to grasp was a tuft of grass, a few long blades with roots barely clinging to the rock. The only chance he had of climbing back up on the cliff. So he grabbed it. He had to know it would pull free."

Rand's insane - seriously, it takes a few reads, and someone telling you, but by the end, he's pretty mad. He was normal before, but between the former taint and all the power he gets from being ultimate ruler...

He probably was taught by Ishy - Ishy has done so many things relating to people in power that training this guy to raise an army of Asha'man against the new Dragon Reborn seems perfectly in character. Anyway, he probably spent a couple of books reining in the Forsaken and whatever else; he might have not checked on Taim at that time...?

If by this point in the series you needed any proof, him just going...'meh, so anyways..' when he gets his entire hand blown off is pretty much unrefutable evidence. Question is do you reckon he's too far gone for Cadsuane and Sorilea to bring back ? Cos according to the prophecy if not then everybody gon get rained on. But instead of rain, it'll be pain. A painstorm. Yeahhhh. *ahem*

@ Asmodeon - err ... I'm unsure as to what exactly you mean by 'High Fantasy'.. but it has a uniquely complex and intriguing magic system thing, it is epic in scope of the plot and woven together really well, but the writing is just something else. The characters are awesome. Really he makes them have proper depth to their personalities; some of the best dialouge I've read/heard has been from characters in his books. They're all different too, and not just the same archetype repeated again and again, which is pretty refreshing. Also I wouldn't say it's mature in the sense that its too complex for younger readers or such, but in that it can be pretty ..gritty at times. Seriously though whatever crap I write can't properly describe it, just go get em. Gardens of the Moon is the first one. You'll need to refer to the glossary at the back as well as he can dip you in the deep end at times but it is damn well worth it.

I stopped reading WoT around the 8th book. I'm waiting until the series is done, before I start it again, for fear of RJ croaking before he's written them all. Hmmm.....That reminds me, I need to read Gormenghast again.

And sadly, because he's dying of a rare blood disorder, that's very possible...

It seems to be getting better:

Problem with Ishy controlling Taim is that Taim definitely ordered people to kill Rand, while Ishy is either against that or somewhat apathetic (leaning towards wanting Rand alive till the end though). Doesn't really make much sense why he's waiting though, he hasn't tried to tempt Rand to the "dark side" since book 3, unless there’s the possibility of another dragon being installed by the pattern if Rand dies too early.

That's unfortunate, but he said he was getting better. All we can do is recruit as many people as possible to start/continue reading Wheel of Time, so that god can see how beloved Robert Jordan is to the world. Maybe sacrifice a sheep also, that used to work. Robert Jordan WILL live to see Tamon Gai'don!

I didn't think it worked that way, if Rand dies, then the fate of that Age is sealed...in death. Moridin has to be acting under Sightblinders orders, so why would the Great Lord of the Dark still want Rand alive other than to torture him. Because wasn't the original plan that Rand become the Nae'blis.

I remember reading a part which I believe [after interpretation] said that Rand is Galad Damodred's brother. If this is the case, is he inadvertently committing incest with his sister? That's gross to think about.

Half-brother to someone who's a half-brother to Elayne. So no connection at all really.
