Default For anyone who's ever read the literary abnormality we know as "Oryx and Crake"

So basically my APEngLit have to do this in depth analysis assignment of Margaret Atwood's "Oryx and Crake". Now, if she wasn't Canadian, she wouldn't even matter. And if her books weren't so shitty, I wouldn't resent it as much.

So /b/, I implore you, tell me the answer to the question:

"What is the significance of the opening and ending scenes?"

And don't say "42", because I've already tried that and the teacher didn't like it very much.

P.S. This is the reason why we should have a homework sub-forum or a stickied thread in CC.

I liked that book. ^_^ (If you don't get help in a few hours, I'll see what I can do~ I never read it for school, although a teacher recommended it, so I can like it.)

If it isn't for school, sure - I found it to be a pretty good book. (We were reading the Chrysalids, which I'd read twice before, and I expressed an interest in utopian/dystopian/totalitarian/etc. societies...)

I think the teacher recommended it because I said I liked either Farenheit 451 or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. Anybody read both?

I hate Margaret Atwood's books, period. I seriously cannot recall, in detail, what that book was about.

All I remember is that there is some kind of betrayal and someone gets shot. It was such a chore to read (although I did surprisingly well on the analysis). Good luck on your assignment.

I didn't particularly like it...but maybe it's only because I'm biased against Margaret Atwood.

If you want dystopian read Brave New World by Alduous Huxley (sp?) or 1984 by George Orwell. Those two are a lot better than anything Margaret Atwood would write.

Coindicentally, that was the year I did my ISP on 1984. =P (And the next year was Animal Farm. And the next year, my friend convinced me to buy Brave New World, which I still haven't read...)
