I still think that the Corean wave is going pretty strong. I just came back from China and there's Corean advertisements everywhere.

Though I feel that this year, the media in China wasn't as focused on Corea as last year.

I think that's because they can make more money if they aim for other markets. I mean why just stay in one market? Though I know for BoA we sort of abandoned her before she went to Japan, then when she came back we accepted her xD.

Corea has good dramas, Corean dramas are like the equivalent for anime. Interesting fact btw, most anime/manga are now being drawn by Coreans (this is what I'm hearing anyway). Apparently, there are enough Corean artists to put them in sweatshops to do all the work for most mangas and anime.

Chinese may be spoken by more people, but I run into more people speaking Japanese than Chinese... I guess it depends where you live and what your plans for the future is.

Anyways, I think I'd rather go for Japanese than Korean

I'll say learn Chinese it's more beneficial and if you do, learn the Mandarin dialect first because it has more resources to learn and the writing is based on that dialect than Cantonese. When you learn one dialect, at the same time you get the gist of the other.

In reality, Cantonese isn't very widely spoken at all. And it sounds ugly, to boot.
Awwww, I speak Cantonese, and it's not that ugly. Just more slang than Mandarin, as I heard my friends say.

The key animations are done by Japanese studios. The animations in between are done by Korean studios. They're cheap and all.

Also Bakunyuu, taken from bak and unyuu, means that he thinks that you like men and wants to sleep with you.

    ^______^

No I have no idea what that means. I doubt the guy who said that even knows what it means. Or maybe you just didn't spell it out right.

Yeah - she was what, the second most popular female artist last year after Hyolee? And she released an album and some other stuff and BoA did nothing. But still... Japan has a huge music market. And some REALLY good music, too (in comparison to American, anyway).

The drama thing - can't disagree there. I've heard that they're really amazing (and emotional... and depressing). Next time I go to Chinatown I should look for some. ^_^ (Sweatshops? Ouch. XD)

both are good and will be useful for your life... maybe you would like to learn both, i do want to... but due to your college prob, learning japanese first will be a great idea, i think... since you only need to know, minimum, hiragana and katakana, it much much more easier than chinese. chinese uses kanji that is more more difficult to remember (too much strokes... *~*) i don't know about the grammar, maybe chinese easier or maybe not (japanese grammar is easy though!!!)

but, i think you can learn chinese as well... just to be able to speak chinese is enough ( learn the grammar and so on... ) learn chinese kanji later... *~*

well, it's up to you anyways... hope could help (~^

I've noticed that too recently. There are some amazing korean movies, and alot of bad ones...take the good with the bad and all that jazz.

You should check out A tale of two sisters (Janghwa, Hongryeon) and Chan-wook park's movies.

on topic: Learning Chinese would be extremely beneficial in any major, but particularly Business. The reasons are pretty obvious.

Japanese wouldn't be bad either, but china is 1/5th of the world's population...
