It's all you'll ever need. I've never been professionally taught Japanese in anyway and yet by visiting this site I am now able to recognize all the hiragana, katakana, and 40 kanji (like what, 1,960 more to go? roflmao XDD; ), and I basically get what the sentence structures are all about. It has many sections on grammar and more, the members help each other alot (im not a member myself but ive seen posts on the shoutboard and stuff), and from what I see it helps alot of people who are studying for the JLPT. So if I can learn that much on my own, i think it would be a great supplement if you're learning Japanese in school and so on. ^.^
well me i know katakana can recognize most hiragana know about 70 kanji and enough of the verbal language to get by. ask prices say i want stuff ask directions even say im bad at japanese and properly introduce myself. beyond that not much. also i got into anime because i was into japanese first. and for those who care here is a decent set of videos i found on youtube that teach japanese but for some reason the person doesnt have the first episode i find that kinda weird http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=powerstone2
