UFC 66 - Dec.30,2006 - Liddell / Ortiz 2
Hey just wondering if there was anyone here who watched UFC 66 a little more than a week ago.
If so, tell me what you thought about the main event. In other words, did anyone think the Liddell / Ortiz fight was stopped too early?
I sure as hell did. I mean Ortiz was in BIG trouble in the first round (he pretty much collapsed like a girl onto the fence), but was able to survive and go on fighting. In the third round, I see Ortiz on the ground blocking Liddell's fists with a defence similar to how he defended Couture's punches... yet the fight was stopped. It's going to be hard for Ortiz to get his reputation back with the results of his latest fight.
Well, those are my thoughts on the fight. If there are no MMA fans here, well I just wasted 7 minutes of my time.
The fight reminded me of an old, old, show:
Very dirty, and a bit pathetic to think about.
Ortiz was getting his ass kicked all over the octagon, he wasn't nearly aggressive enough to push Liddell back at all and when he was being pummeled in the last round, he may have been protecting him self a little but, he was not making any significant attempts to get away. If they hadn't stopped the fight when they did I do not believe Ortiz would have been able to escape and would have resulted in a knockout. I just don't think Ortiz is on the same level as Liddell.
I wouldn't say he was getting his ass kicked. In fact, I would say he was doing pretty well. Moving in and out of exchanges and landing a few leg kicks. Had the fight gone on to the fourth, I would've doubted Liddell's chances of winning (would he have slowed down? We'll never know). Oh well, to each his own.
^^^ gotta agree, Ortiz was doing alrite. He fought smart...well at first he did...the first 2 rounds, then the 3rd, he tried to strike w/ liddel which was just dumb...and got knocked out.
...but is it me, who just thinks the fight could of gone longer? Cuz chucks hits werent hitting Ortiz...he was blocking them, and when the ref stopped liddel, ortiz was in the motion of getting up....but i'm not saying ortiz was gonna win, i knew he was going to lose.
uh-huh exactly what I'm saying, though i don't think ortiz was DEFINITELY going to lost. as you said, chuck's punches weren't hitting ortiz ( [3rd round] out of the 10-12 punches thrown with ortiz on the floor, 3-4 connected but still partially blocked) and ortiz was in the motion of standing up. wish yamasaki had let it go on a couple seconds longer (or have big john ref the match).
yup...cuz definently i believe the fight could of gone longer.
what about forest?...hahaa...cant believe he got pwnt like that...
@ deuce22 - LMAO oh man. I don't watch Ultimate Fight Night's (no SpikeTV) so I didn't know Keith Jardine.
but i don't think anyone was expecting (Forrest ESPECIALLY) Forrest to lose the way he did.
see how Forrest leaves Rogan in front of the camera like "WTF?"
ahaha, yeah i try and catch ultimate fighter whenever i can, but i was hopin forest was going to win...but he got the shiet knocked out of him...ahaha.
the way he left...ahahaha...he said something like...
"i got the fuck knocked out, that's it...i'm getting the hell outta here." ahaha..somethin like that...joe rogan was like "uhh..wtfffff"...ahaha.
