....I am going to go out on a limb here, and say:
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang! That's one greedy, greedy guy. Though I don't claim to understand half of what you just said(if that), your information, and the backup you used for it, is very convincing. Scam. In all honesty, how CAN he get away with stuff like that??? I mean, with that amount of money going into his pocket each month, even with how lazy the manga and anime publishers are about prosecuting(by that I mean "never"), I would have expected something from them by now... It should be noted that his forum has over 160,000 registered users (the 350 users that Kane quoted is just the number of people that were on the site at the time). Also, his usual donations target seems to be $2000 (admittedly it is still over what you estimated the actual cost to be).
I'm reluctant to actually say that its a scam, since I know nothing about web hosting (why is 32Tb the max traffic?) and I don't know how to verify what you've said. However, I am a little suspicious. EDIT: Whats up with this? ![]()

There are posts about this same subject on other forums already so I figured I would do some investigating on my end. |

100Mbps
100Mb in 1 second 6000Mb in 1 minute 36000Mb in 1 hour 8640000Mb in 1 day 259200000Mb in a month Divide that by 8 to have bytes: 32400000MB Which is 32Tb (small b denotes that it takes 1000 instead of 1024 to change the prefix) Post directed at 98. Edit: 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day and 30 days in a month, right? Edit 2: I'm more a hardware guy than a software and networking person, but aren't there packet overheads and error correction that also takes place? If so, isn't the actual bandwidth used for purely transferring data less than the theoretical one? And if so, the bullshit is even worse, right? Last edited by Jyuu; 01-03-2007 at 12:33 AM. |

wow... its like Naruto is the new PS3 everyone is getting it at low prices and reselling it at obscene ones... except in this situation the product is free and being sold for a price... seems Tazmo has a few wannabes after his title.
...however i cant be mad at NarutoMania completely. im fine with him turning a profit for the work they put in running and maintaing the site but dont pretend like youre doing it for free when youre pocketing hundreds of dollars. they should say that the site is for-profit... but i expect damn good downloads and credits to offset that.

I'm not surprised if this is a scam,
especially when it is a big manga/anime forum, you are tempted to make some profits. Just like steal said, instead of "miscalculating" the technical cost, why don't they put it as service cost or something for the extra $800. If they really provide good service, people probably don't care giving their money out. |

he's like a movie theater. You're not paying for the movie, but to use the theater for your viewing pleasure. Once you're inside you can watch whatever movie you want as many times as you want.
he should just make it clear.
