I think that the question has not been asked properly. The fact that you're smart, doesn't mean that you can not be popular. You can have a high a high IQ, and still have good social skills, and charisma.

Anyways, I choose being smart, because (based in the idea that you can be either smart or popular, but not both), as csuti said, popularity doesn't last long. While being smart will last my whole life (or a least most of it), and I'll be able to make good use of it (at least of good use for me).

Yes, it my feel good being popular (as long as it is because of your personality, or because people admires you, not because people wants something from you, like in the case of you being rich), but unless your trying to base your life in something like the movies, music, modeling, etc... In those cases, you must be talented, but being popular is certainly a good factor of success. Outside those cases, popularity won't really help you much in life.

Not being popular doesn't mean that you don't have friends, or that you won't be able to find a good partner to share your life with. Not being popular just means that you are not one of the (or THE) centre(s) of the attention.

Everyone seems to think that being super popular equales short term success. But That is not necessarily the case. Popularity means being popular in any case. Sort of how hercules, musashi, or samuel L jackson, are timelessly popular, no matter what they do. being popular means your are recognised everywhere you go for as long as you live and most likely longer (almost like gaining immotality). But being smart does not mean you are also entilted to popularity. Just look at the guy who invented the computer (Konrad Zuse) almost nobody knows who he is even though he is pobably the most influential being in modern sociaty. without him we would not be communicating as we are right now but, for ever person who does so how many do you see thank him for the greatness he has helped give birth to? Although I picked intelligence only because I am natually curious of the world around me and find it more fasinating then the approval of a great amount of idiots who do not bother to look beyond there own primal pleasures.

I would so rather be smart, and never be popular at all than just be popular. I feel that most popular people are popular for all the wrong/stupid reasons, and are usually just a bunch of arseholes. Take actors for instance, they can be such stuck up snobs sometimes. Tom Cruise got his baby's first crap and put it in a museum for example, how stupid is that? Yeah, I know it's mainly the museum's fault, but he's still a tard for doing that, despite the fact that he's popular. But smart people who really help out the world, or people who fight for what's right are never as popular, and often overlooked altogether by people who are too busy admiring pretend heroes rather than real ones. Yeap, the world is a pretty dumb place sometimes. Tbh, I respect real people worlds more than I have respect for any famous person, singer/actor whatever. Those guys are all overrated.

^Me after watching Spirited Away, because I discovered the best movie ever!
Random but good advice: Play Metal Slug.

I like how the only people who really looked outside the box of high school where Dante and Bam. They saved me some typing.

Anyway, I'd rather be smart because I don't have any ambitions that need for me to be popular. I don't want a political career, I don't want to be rich, I don't want to be an actor or an artist. On the other hand I have friends that need to be popular because of the career they have chosen. Then I know people who are naturally charismatic.

Popularity doesn't lead to flipping burgers, but making bad life choices, and stupidity do.

Just because you are popular doesn't mean you are stupid or you will end up as a failure. That may have been a nerd pipe dream 20 years ago but today it doesn't work out that way.

...It depends. Would I keep my intelligence as it is now? Because if so, I'd rather have enough charisma to be popular. It would really help for many high-paying jobs where you DON'T con people out of money, and it brings fame - and I'm not really all that stupid, so if I could keep my intelligence level as it is now, I'd be fine. ^_^

i'd rather be popular so i get a high job in order to rule all the smart asses :3

seriously, it is very funny to see that much people here believe intelligence will get them a good and rich life, and popularity will only get you low jobs.....
is it because most here are too frustrated from not being popular, and still believe in santa claus ???
