Thread: New Rule! Read Or Suffer! (Will last between 12/13 to 12/20)

Chit chat is gonna try a new game.

Every post must be at least 70 words.

People are getting annoyed that certain people are "spamming." Personally, I believe this is because people are not thinking long enough before they decide to post something.

So.. we're gonna try this new system. I think I'll let it last for a week, and we'll see if that trains any of our minds to think more before we post.

Failure to act in this manner will result in the use of infractions! (ZOMG! Those things actually have a purpose now!)

Oh.. and I might delete your post too out of spite.

It’s really not that hard. Open a Microsoft word and just do a word count.

Or… just type like a little longer.

Pictures do not count as words. So, if you wanna flame somebody with a picture, have also a mini 100 word post underneath.

Word count = 163.

I really like this idea. ^_^ Admittedly, I was one of the ones who complained (just a little) so blame me if you like... Anyways, this should be really interesting and I can't wait to see what NON-SPAM stuff people come up with to chat about on a regular basis! ^_^

...Infractions, they result in bans, right? If you have enough? Be warned, people! =P

CPR, can we please have a rule against spam? I just know people are going to do that and say that it's within the rules, so can you add that any post considered spam, or obviously spam, will likewise be deleted? It would probably help to uphold this rule. ^^

I think a hundred words might be challenging for some people. Especially when there's not that much you actually want to say.

Not to mention that people don't read long posts. Has anyone else noticed that? I've been playing a game with my section, where I hide threats in long posts and see if anyone reads them or pays attention. Most of them don't, so I've been, er...punishing them by carrying out my threats.

Actually I should probably endorse this rule, it finally means I have an excuse to make gargantuan posts. Hahaha, no one gets to complain now!

(coolpuprocks are exams getting to you? Are you sure you want to run every post through a word count to make sure people are playing the game right? Or should we all be watching for it?)

After running this through Word I decided that a hundred words isn’t too many. I was going to say fifty might be better, but a hundred is really nothing. I think this will be fun!

Shit CPR, most of my posts are what, a few sentences long? What about when we're just answering a short question, or commenting briefly on something?

Oh, you nicer mods might just to be giving out measly infractions, but what about Jyuu and Mart? Some guy writes a 99-word post and BAM! t3h ban stick has spoken. But it should be a good measure of how many people actually read the rules, I mean, to be honest, when I first joined, I didn't read the rules. In fact, I never read the rules to any of the forums I go to, and I've been perfectly fine.
Maybe I just got lucky.

But in any case, it's good that I read this one, or else my laconic responses would have been thoroughly lambasted by you mods.

However, I agree with kaom, people tend not to read really long posts. Like me, for example. I'm naturally turned off when I see a huge mass of text when the page loads. Sometimes I choose to read it, sometimes I don't.

Oh, and a question: What are you going to do with images in posts? Or image posts altogether? They are not words, par se, but you know how the saying goes: a picture is worth a thousand words. BAM! Ten posts right there.

This should be enough for 100 words.

I don't give infractions either, I just go straight to the ban-stick. *sigh* But I doubt CPR is going to run EVERY post through a word-count (or will she?). The idea is long posts, because we face lots of spam in this forum and that's really bad for forum growth.

One-liners should be allowed, though... good one-liners. You'll know when you see them. And DEFINITELY that picture, because it's the best picture out there and everyone knows it. :3 If a picture is worth a thousand words, the bunny-pancake pic is worth super-respect. Special respect.

I agree, I don't usually read long posts... but it DOES help when they're broken up into smaller paragraphs. Those I read. A single big block of text is really hard to read, even, because the words are so tiny (or maybe I just have bad eyesight).

Zone Bit Recording (ZBR) is a method of storing more sectors per track on a hard disk. Using normal methods, the tracks on the outside of the hard disk were longer than the inner tracks of the hard disk, which results in the sectors being larger in size on the outside of the hard disk. ZBR fixes this by placing more sectors on the outside tracks than the inner tracks, resulting in more storage space per platter on your hard disk.
