Thread: Pope Protests

Some time in September the Pope said things that got a lot of people angry, two days later he went on TV. and apologized. Some time in November he said the same things about the same people now he went/is going to the countries of these people to apologize.

Compared to the previous Pope who often had coffee and frequent visits to the Islamic leaders what is this guy doing?

When the Pope was apologizing he went as far as to cite the previous Popes words.

Was he right in what he said did he make Islam an enemy of Christianity when they were once allies.


There, in the confines of a German university, he questioned Islam's compatibility with reason, he cited the Koran's references to jihad, and he quoted a Byzantine emperor's rude remarks about Muhammed. In Turkey, if nothing else, Benedict followed the old rule that visiting world leaders don't wag their finger at their host country.

He said dumb things to alot of people and now he is sorry. Just like the comedian from seinfield or what ever when he was talking about black people sayin the "N" word and stuff.

But he could fix it.

I mean...he's the Pope.

I think he was trying to gain peoples favor by saying some of those things...the problem is he said bad things to a total Muslim Population of 1.79 billion.

He just went about it the wroung way.

The Pope did nothing wrong by saying what he did; his mistake was in underestimating the Muslim reaction - which essentially proved his point. Benedict's speech wasn't even about Islam, for that matter; it was about the role of reason in religion (Christianity, at least). He just quoted a Byzantine Emperor for one of his points - not a main point, even - that he didn't necessarily agree with. Also, by reacting in the way they did, those Muslims kind of proved his point... that he didn't intend to make.

Ugh, can't we just forget about this.

The Pope is merely human.

Fact of life: All humans screw up. None are perfect.

That's why I will never understand why Catholics adore the Pope. He's only human. I don't see how the Pope is "closest representative to Jesus" thus making him practically holy-er.

Well, he isn't. I don't think he's perfect, but I don't think he was really as wrong as people think - and this is coming from someone who doesn't like Popes.

Yea, muslims are very serious about their religion. My best friend was about to punch me out because he thought I was talking shit on Allah. He woulda got his ass beat anyway.

As long as humans take part in anything, no matter the involvement of God, there will be flaw.
