hi, um long time lurker/leecher first time posters. anyway to get straight to the point,

i asked a girl to the formal, (equivalent to the Prom for some of you i think) and i don't have a lot of female friends so i can't really ask them but what does it mean when you ask a girl to the formal and she replies with a 'can i get back to you with that?' or something along those lines?

like, why can't they jsut say yes or no, ffs. anyway, i'd like it you could reply fast so i can quickly ask someone else or something, once i know its a definate no or a maybe. It'd be awkward if she got back to me with a yes, and i had someone else, you know what i mean? anyway~ thanks.

And why do you ask us and not her?

If a girl said that to me I would wait for her answer first, just to avoid the scenario you mentioned in the last sentence. Usually girls are outright with their answers, either a cruel hell no, or if they are nice, they try to bring you down easily.

look for a back up as well. if she ask tell her "I'll tell you later" ^ o ^

seriously give her a bit of time and ask her again. the later it is the harder it is to get another one. specially on a prom night. if you wait too much you might end up with going with your cousin or a scary-looking girl.

It would be heart breakening with just a "no". But there is some hope left.

Some girls even talk later on about how many times they were asked, which is funny

i generally ask girls that i know arent stuck up bitches, ^_____^ this one in particular is pretty ...hmm quiet? but yeah, it probably was a no, but i like it better when they say its a yes or a no, it allows you to jsut move on, freaking 'can i get back to you,' i mean it sound all nice like you got some hope, but seriously, i'd rather move on then have to wait around.

Well thanks for your input, i'd still like some female to enlighten me, but the general consensus seems that it was a no, which is kind of like a mixed blessing...im free to persue some other helpless little girl, but i kind of liked that one.

I'm not sure if that was yes or no, that depends form the particular girl. But I agree that after waiting a bit, you should talk to her and ask if she had thought about your proposition ( or sth like that). The worst thing is waiting till the prom night for her answer. No, that's second-worst. The worst thing would be while waiting for an answer, getting another girl for the prom.
