I went ahead and looked up your song. Looks like there's quite a bit of confusion over that line.

    Je n'ai pas d'espoir.

    je n'ai pas le désespoir

I'm horrible with kanji, but i'm pretty sure 有 means "possession." It could have another meaning though.

You really would have to know the kanji; "yuu" could be a number of things (like evening, or something like that... but that's not the same kanji). By the way, I think the bath one is just the hiragana for "yu". I think.

If the hiragana characters are to the right of the kanji, that's how you pronounce it. If it's below or above, it's probably part of a different word (or a particle). Is that what you're wondering?

Also, you can't have a word in French that's "d'spoir". The d' is only used when there are certain letters (the vowels and h, I believe) at the beginning of the next word. It's probably "d'espoir"... "I don't have hope" or something like that.

Yea. 郵, 有, 勇, 優, 由, and 雄 are all written as ゆう in Hiragana and are all pronounced "Yuu" but there is a big difference between 郵 (Mail) and 由 (Reason). Be careful on the pronunciation too, "Yuu" and "Yu" also have a big difference.

As far as my very limited kanji knowledge goes, I'm pretty sure 有 is the equivalent of "possession."

Hope that helps the thread maker.

It's yong, in Chinese. It means courage. The Japanese meaning should be similar.

The word for courage in Japanese is "yuuki"... and it's two kanji, but I don't think either one is that. It IS the word for possession (aru - to have). =P And one of the readings can be yuu (I would guess that it's combined with another kanji...?).
