Default Does this Piss You Off?

Recently in Toronto there was a Anti-AIDS conference of some sort. There each country had a stand where they promoted their respective AIDS-fighting policies, medications, etc. Most countries were showcasing newly-developed Anti-Retrovirals(To date the most effective way of fighting HIV) and talking about advertising campaigns and whatnot. And what was at the South African stand? Baskets of Lemon, Garlic and assorted vegetables. There were three small bottles of ARVs next to a basket of garlic. The minister of health still had the gall to stand before an assembly of doctors, professors, ministers and UN envoys and claim that South Africa 'has the most comprehensive AIDS-fighting policy in the world.'. Later, when confronted with intense criticism, the Minister went on the offensive, daring people to prove her wrong. Despite all the data and facts doing just that, she continues to ignore them. South Africa has an HIV infection rate of ~25% among the adult populace, and in KwaZulu-Natal (one of the provinces), 66% of all infants are born with HIV.
The debacle at the conference really epitomises just what is wrong with South Africa. When something is done in error, instead of conceding the point, all that happens is denial, and retaliation. Even as the crime rate soars - excluding countries not at war, only Columbia is more dangerous - the government is patting itself on the back for its implementation of BEE and such. BEE stands for Black Economic Empowerment, and long story short it involves setting race quotas for employers. It's not wrong - on the contrary it's badly needed as the country emerges from Apartheid - but the execution has lined the pockets of the rich(who, incidentally, are former government employees) while driving the poor deeper into poverty. Last week, a new lan policy was approved, which allowed the government to forcibly take land from farmers to 'redistribute'. When faced with criticism, once again instead of rethinking the bill, the government went on the offensive. And the former Vice-President of this country, who was recently aquitted of rape, is now on trial for corruption. He is also the former head of the National AIDS awareness council. At his rape trial, he publicly stated that he believed showers 'minimise the risk of AIDS.' He knowningly had unprotected sex with a woman he knew was AIDS positive. When asked, he answered 'I didn't think it would happen to me.' He has yet to submit a test for AIDS. And this it the EX-VICE PRESIDENT and HEAD OF THE AIDS AWARENESS COUNCIL!! And his successor is no better, having been busted for taking a 'fact-finding mission' to Dubai on the presidential plane - a fact-finding mission on which she was accompanied by her family and friends, a fact-finding mission that cost the taxpayers of a country with 45% unemployment hundreds of thousands. Accusations and questions were, as usual, met with flat denials. This country is going to the dogs. That's why everyone is leaving.

And they still want to host the 2010 World Cup. With this administration, it's nothing more than a farfetched dream.

Is there some kind of solution to this sort of thing? I mean, I'm an American. What right would America have to go over there, overthrow the government, and establish a government that will provide proper healthcare and a corruption-free environment for the people? It has no such right, right? But I feel it's my moral duty to go over there and try and do something to fix it. Apparently shoving the information in front of their faces isn't going to do the trick. How are we supposed to deal with these people?
