go into a wide open space
place nails all over the floor, covering every bit of ground you see around you
stand there for 36 hours.
trust me, it works
Oh...another idea: Read Berserk. Slowly. No way you'll fall asleep.
okay I'm going to try the walking in circles, big fan, mmorpg, stabbing myself and berserk ideas. but keep them coming, I need lots of inspiration in order to do this.
Forgive me if you have already explained, but why are you doing this?
Try to find a job, and study keep on your studies at the university, if you find time to sleep, you'll be lucky. With this method you can easily stay awake for 5 days. Red Bull works miracles when you're feeling weak.
ok, I stayed up for 72 hours once and this is how I did it:
1) -Morning- Go to work. It's actually pretty hard to get some sleep while working (especially if its physical work), your either interrupted by your boss or costumers.
2) -Afternoon- Work out. Keeps the body active and awake. Rent some video games.
3) -Evening- Go partying with friends. Socializing is great for staying awake and friends will probably help you in your quest. Don't drink too much booze.
4) -Late Night- After everyone has passed out it's time to bust out those video games you rented earlier. Dont play anything that has too many repetative actions and basicly just do that until you have to go to work in the morning.
1) Repeat day one.
1) Repeat day two.
Just keep that up until you stay up for ten days and die or pass out and fall flat on your face sometime before death.
I stopped after three days because the hallucinations were making it hard for me to work. Boss was starting to look at me wierd.
Note: Regarding the hallucinations...if you see Satan, you're fine. If you see the Flying Spaghetti Monster, you've died and are in heaven. Enjoy the beer volcano and the stripper factory, you lucky bastard.
Okay I've reached the 24 hour mark and I've mostly just been reading manga. I think it is time to move on to MMORPGs.
The reason I'm doing this is really out of curiosity. Whether or not I can, how blood shot my eyes get, how stupid I become, whether or not I get bags underneath my eyes, if I achieve some kind of enlightenment or perhaps supernatural powers etc.
The funny thing is, where as you would expect a lack of sleep to lead to depression, I am actually finding it a lot easier to be happy than I normally do. I guess depression is probably more of a long term cause of lack of sleep.
btw for anyone else wanting to try this, walking around in circles doesn't work very well. It doesn't stimulate your brain and by the 200th time of walking around a couch or something, your legs feel pretty tired as well. The end result is your eyes feel a helluva lot heavier than they should do.
also stear clear of long warm bathes, they're too relaxing,
I meant taking outdoor walks.
I have an idea. flood your house so that every room has at least 4 inches of water on the ground. Then burn(or sell) all your couches, chairs, and bed. Unless of course, you find it possible to sleep on a wet floor.
