Been there. Done that. Too engaged in deathmatching to get the T-shirt.
It helps though, that you can register on the spot in seconds as soon as you arrive, registration cost me nothing, and I live 2 minutes away from the Hilton-Anatole, just south on the very same road. I did have to cart a few friends around but, considering how convenient it was for them to have my house there, I can understand. (Now that I got them interested, I know they'll be returning next year and that time I'll offer just the house and let them drive themselves. Anyway it was a blast. Sadly, thanks to my schedule, I didn't get to play ANY Enemy Territories, but I know I can count on being the first person out of all of my group to buy it (and possibly the only one, one of my buddies can't run it and isn't an FPS fan, and none of them actually buy the Quake series at all. :-/ That part kinda kills me.) But for these sorts of things, you gotta take your friends, seriously. It's way to boring on your own. I do have one friend who is totally an FPS gamer, but he didn't go, the bastage.
I think I spent all of $10 while I was there. On parking. That's 5 dollars for parking, with me coming and going 3 times but getting 2 free receipts for parking to turn in, one of which I handed out to a buddy since I knew I wouldn't use the last one.
So anyway, I'm curious, is anyone here an FPS, and more particularly, a Quake Fan, that would consider coming to next year's Quake Con? I mean, I know that might mean flying for most of you and staying in a hotel, but who knows? There might be some folks who'd consider it. I didn't BYOC this year, but it's almost a given that if you come down here for something like this, it's a very good idea to bring your own computer, to guarantee something to play on.
But then again, tons of people fly down here for Akon (which is about 10 minutes away now that I live in Dallas), so I'm sure it's not too far fetched that the more hardcore gamer types would fly for what amounts to a gigantic LAN. There is however, a noticeable lack of workshops and things. That's no surpise since most people don't care to leave their seats too much.
But hey, if any of you did come down here for this, or another convention, I'd be glad to show you around Dallas. Provided you don't scare the hell out of me by turning out to be a 40 year old child molestor. Ak, I'm looking at you. That AZN picture was obviously fake. Probably some poor kid you kidnapped off the streets and locked in a closet.
So yes. My point? Umm... Visit Dallas! I'll give tours to non-molestors!
