T r u t h *
Whoa, I created a thread.
Anyways, hopefully this thread will help us all to not get off topic on stuff like the UN thread, that poor, poor thread.
Like the Gay Marriage one made by Randolf, this one stems off from the whole debate in the UN and Christian thing thread.
However, I'm going to refrain a bit from posting in the gay marriage on until I get a clear understanding of what people think about truth and morals.
To start off, I for one believe in the existence of absolute truth and absolute morals. Now I havn't said anything about God or religion yet, so let us keep it that way. This is purely on the question of whether truth can be absolute or could only be relative (or whatever other properties of truth you feel compelled to talk about). That would eventually lead into absolute or relative morals.
I'm not gonna really explain anything yet, just want to get some idea of whether people agree or disagree.
PS: Try not to act retarded in this thread. Though I'm no forum monitor in any way, it's for your benefit, since all retarded posts will probably be ignored and a waste of time for the one who posted.
This discussion again? We've done it already, no one came to any conclusions. Anyway, it'll all brew down again to two sides, one who believes in absolute truths regardless off perception, and one who believes that truths are relative to perception... and no one would be able to convince the other.
Truth is all relative-- it's all based on perception.
For example: World War II. Were the Nazi's justified? From a Nazi standpoint, of course they were. From the Jewish standpoint, "hell no!"
And then someone would answer "Regardless of what the Nazi's and the Jews think of, there is still the truth out there." And no, I don't think justification can be considered as a particular truth, since, as the root word "justify" implies, it's simply based on a person's own judgement, or simply put, his opinion.
And so on.
like aallx said, this thread got no where last time. Sorry nataku. Every debate goes much like the above, expect for 3 pages, more convoluted, and lots of retarded posts.
Debating on unknowns and opinions is pointless afterall, although it is a good way to kill time. Too bad, this particular topic has been debated on already, so there's no fun in it anymore.
the truth shall set you free?
Jakko tries valiantly, though.

Yeah, it really was a good thread at the time, albeit convoluted and rambling. I wonder why all of these threads that involve, yknow, actually using your brain tend to bring in every subject from gay marriage to absolute moral rules seamlessly.
I don't believe in the concept of absolute morality. It really doesn't fit humans in any case...
I'm tempted by the concept of absolute truth though... It's just that we are likely never to find out exactly what that is...
