Thread: Zombie Attack

What items would you want to have at hand to survive a zombie attack? This is a mostly comprhensive list of the stuff I would want.

Your items must be real world items, or only slightly futuristic.

1] Combination woven Carbon Nanotube with Aggragated Diamond Nanorod studs. It's an undergarment along the lines of the picture below, that is also based on more advanced X-armor techniques and tech so that it keeps your body cool during extreme exertion, and warm on those frozen night stakeouts. The studs being small 'bumps' about 1/4th the size of a pinky fingernail woven into between the the CNT material.

The weave would spread kinetic energy through a large area of your body while absorbing and dampning almost all the energy, mostly elimanating blunt trauma. The studs would deflect damage coming from the shear of a sharp object, such as claws, falling on jagged metal, improvised weapons, and such things as a chain saw or a sharpened stake. The CNT weave would easily be able to handle the stated damage, but it never hurts to be have extra armor.


2] A mono-molecular weapon, preferably a pizo-electric 'scythe'. It works on the principle of extending an extremely thin, strong, crystal wire of 100nm or so to whatever length you 'dial' the controls, then sending an electric charge through the crystal that vibrates it at millions of cycles a second, giving you a 'blade' that can slice through any material with a lower hardness on the Mohss scale. (A note, with current technology, this is actually on the outside end of achievable, except for the fact that it would either need to extrude the crystal from some combination of chemicals, making it limited in charge, or it would be stored in the hilt, and it's range would be the size of the hilt)

3] A solar-panel with attached condensor, to get water from the air, and power any electrical device. Also with an ultra-high density/capacity capacitor battery, with rapid discharge. [More efficient in almost everything]

4] Cool threads. Looking good killing zombies is the key to scoring any chicks you find holding out in a last redoubt or something. Needs to be durable, and hopefully only takes damage from extreme trauma [don't want something that falls apart when your running through brambles, or flakes away after repeated blunt trauma, such as zombie fists to the stomach]

5] Stim tabs to be disolved in water, drunk, then distributed directly through the stomach wall into the bloodstream. Similar flavor to BAWLS.
Contain a potent form of caffiene[due to it's limited side-effects] about 50x more powerfull than what is found in coffee beans, snail-cone toxins to dampen pain about 1000 times more effectively than morphine, and an exotic form of glucose that the body can use for over 1000 calories a gram, providing a heavily concentrated energy source for the body, elimanating the need for food consumption on the short term.

6] Nutrient pills to suplement the stim tabs and altogether elimanate the need for food.

7] Micro-laptop, water proof, uses holographic memory storage [Yes, this does exist] for over 5 terrabytes of storage space, totally shock proof and capable of surving .50 cal bullets from point blank, with no damage to mild scratching. Utilizes a special port capable of shifting it's shape to accept all known input/output jacks. Advanced programs allow the hacking of security systems to get any info needed from a computer system, along with anaylizing and interpreting data from security systems to alert the user to zombie locations, movements, etc.

8] Hydranide motorcycle, all-terrain, including a balast system for water travel. With the track made from [If Carbon Nanotubes aren't used instead] Kevlar and a solid rubber core, it is capable of 80mph over almost all known conditions. The entire body of the cycle can curve into a crescent shape allowing for extreme cornering with the high traction of the track. With the only wear and tear on the track itself due to electric motors and excellent engineering, the cycle is equipped with an onboard computer that mointors damage to the track, then can extrude more kevlar to repair it with chemicals extracted from the atmosphere and environment. Is able to extract energy for itself from the environment through means such as heat sinks that convert heat energy into electricty, intergral light absorbing materials that convert nearly the entire EM spectrum into electricty, and so on.

9] Lights. Both lights are modified for integral rechargebal capacitors. The M6 Guardian and the L2 LumaMax by Surefire.



Note: Aspects of the suit, computer, and motorcycle are not really achievable with today's technology, [such as getting energy from the environment with any means other than light energy] but the CNT fibers are actually being produced, and armor made from it will be soon available. Carbon nanotubes have many usefull propertes, some being; effectively room temperture super conductors, harder than diamond, one of the lowest brittleness ratings of any material, and they have the highest specific strength of any known material. Aggragated Diamond Nanorods are the hardest and least compressible material in the world, making it perfect for distributing the energy from a kinetic impact, especially fast impacts that would normally shatter other materials.

The suit sounds like something Solid Snake would wear...actually, sounds EXACTLY like what Snake would wear.

Carribean zombies are the worst kind, but I'm sure you could take them out with just a handful of...air....

I forgot to mention what kind of 'zombies these are.

These aren't some supernatural manifestion, these are people who's bodies have been drastically altered by a virus. Most have lower than normal intelligence, but enough rudimentary ability to figure out how to do such things as open doors, break through windows to get to what's inside, etc. The modifications to they're bodies have radically altered the musculature introducing newer and far more powrful proteins, but these are not evenly distributed thoughout the muscles, causing erratic and jerky movements, but of almost unbelieavable strength.

The digestive system has also been modified so that they are entirely carnivourus, extract much greater energy from what they consume, and are capable of completely breaking down every organic substance they injest. [No poop.]

Another change is a massive shift in the concentration of water the body needs to survive, greatly reducing the mass of the zombies, and having numerous other effects such as decreasing the amount of bodymass any muscle has to exert force on, but also does such things as thicking the blood, almost entirely elimanating blood loss, but also reducing the amount of oxygen that can be rapidly supplied to muscles, though it means the oxygen that is supplied comes at a far steadier rate allowing for almost unlimited stamina, so long as their stored energy holds out.

Finally, because of the changes most neural matter is damaged, slowing reaction rates, almost entirely elimanating pain and it's effects on the body [such as preventening the body from over exerting itself, stopping it when it's attained more damage than it thinks it can take, and so on] but also reducing all senses greatly, and is the reason of loss of intelligence, and complete loss of prior memory. Also greatly increases aggresion, the reason why they attack and consume anything that has not reached the final stage of infection.




Virus was presumably engineered by a country like the US or Switzerland, but somehow got introduced to the environment. Virus is very stable with almost no mutations [meaning no super zombies] and can only infect humans, but can most animals can be carriers.

That's all any of us would need.

And if I have to have other things, I'd take a katana for my weapon (blades don't need to be reloaded!), a boat of some sort (fully fueled), supplies (3 years' worth), and some other (trustworthy) people. Then I'd hightail it to an island in the middle of the ocean, kill everyone there, and build fortifications. Remember, zombies can wash up on the beach, so you have to be careful. After my people and I finish using trees to build a giant wall around the edges of the island, we'll build living structures, settle down, and wait for the zombie apocalypse to end.

The real question is this: Is there anything better?

I stand by the book but, if randomly had access to barely-existant gadgetry, you can be sure as hell I'd use that too. But since the most highly advanced thing I can get out here is basic weaponry, that's what I'm stuck with.

Yes.

Are we supposed to consider this situation from a realistic viewpoint, or from a theoretical "we can have whatever we want" standpoint?
