How can you compare this to the Death of Superman? Civil War is nothing but absolute garbage and it practically makes me sick that Marvel can regurgitate storylines like the Mutant Registration Act.Originally Posted by StealDragon
Here's a clue: if they wanted to register with the government to become superheroes they wouldn't have put on a freaking mask and tights and become a vigilante in the first place. As for Spiderman revealing his identity: great, throwing almost 30 years of character out the window, yeah, that flies...totally. I'm pretty much frustrated with the Marvel universe right now because the Mutant species can range from having the ability to fart glass and the power to CONTROL THE SHAPE AND FATE OF THE WORLD WITH A THOUGHT (Scarlet ****ing Witch). I had enough of that with Jean Grey (and she had a reason to be so powerful because she was posessed by the Pheonix, none of that "it was originally part of her powers" bull).
The ONLY (and I mean only) things in the Marvel Universe that are actually even decent right now are 1. X-Factor (even when they are involved in such a completely garbage storyline they manage to stay awesome) 2. Runaways (witty and irreverent, The Runaways has actually always been an amusing read) and 3. The Ultimate universe (although I don't follow it often I have heard that it is good, so you probably should throw that one out as a "maybe")
DC is currently the king of comics in my opinion as they are putting out a consistantly good book (52) every week and so far I have liked every single issue of it. Also other good things about DC: Green Lantern (excellent book and one of my favorites right now as they are really getting into Hal Jordan's character and how his return has affected other Lanterns), Robin (pretty good storyline from a book you expect to be cheesy), Nightwing (my absolute favorite superhero keeps a very strong book with interesting story arcs galore), Batman (of course, the caped crusader is always awesome but the 1 year later storyline has led it to be one of the coolest books DC has...again), Teen Titans (no, not the crappy cartoon or anything related to it, but the book is consistantly hard-hitting and really, as it was my favorite book in the past it is still my favorite book now), Outsiders (really a great book as Nightwing and company plunge deeper and deeper into the depths of superhero faux-pas as they just corrected a corrupt government), and Secret Six (an awesome book about villains-gone-superhero...maybe). The Brave New World book which just came out (around 100 pages for a buck, can't get much better than that) concentrates on the lesser-knowns of the DC universe and their story: Shazam, Martian Manhunter, The Creeper, The Atom, Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters (I know it sounds cheesy but its actually very good), and the world's last OMAC (One Man Army Corps).
Now compare all those practical home-runs to Marvel's paultry few and you get a one-sided awesomeness-fest going on with DC. Marvel's desperate stretch of character in order to reveal Spiderman's identity is just a paultry attempt to catch up with DC's crushingly strong writing team until Spiderman 3 comes out next year and normal people actually give a damn about their comics again.
Now I'm not a total DC fanboy, as I do enjoy the indie comics, and just for fair measure I'm going to give you 3 of my favorite indie comics which are actually 3 of my favorite comics in general: "Zombies!" (which centers around a bunch of death row inmates and their captors caught in your standard zombie infestation), "DMZ" (which centers around a political intrigue that splits the U.S. in half as the story follows a lone apprentice reporter going into the most dangerous Demilitarized Zone in the US...New York City.), and "Y the Last Man" (seriously, read this comic...it has to be one of the finest comics I've ever read, its about the entire male species dying, except for one young man and his pet monkey)
