Wow, some of these girls look almost the same. O.o
And I bet at least half of them had this eve-thing surgery......how sad. I see that the need to look like western girls ( white girls? don't know the appropriate name) is getting bigger among asians. Damn, in the future we'll all look like Barbie. Pathetic. That's why I'm against plastic surgery ( apart from the cases of REAL distortions ).
Unfortunatelly the world today doesn't appreciate inner values, only the appearance....so I know it's a lost case. *sigh*

You know what I hate? Those shows like Extreme Makeover, or one called The Swan.
For those of you who may not have been subjected to their bottom-scraping terror, here's the premise: Get a bunch of ugly girls. Make sure they all realise that life isn't worth living if you're ugly. Spend loads of money on making purely aesthetic alterations to them. Let them know, and sell the message that, life will now be good for them because they're more attractive.
Now, to be fair, if someone is really ugly, and someone wants to provide them with free palstic surgery, then why shouldn't they take it? My gripe isn't with them (although they obviously have to agree to the tacit condition that any semblance of pride or dignity becomes forfeit). My gripe is with the asshole producers, who sell the message so much that life as an ugly person is no life at all, and that they are Angels of God who have come to deliver them from hagdom. Because looks are everything.
This was particuarly bad in "The Swan". This was one of those shithouse shows like "The Bachelor", or any other like pathetic excuse for entertainment. The situation here was, we take a bunvh of ugly girls, and try to do em up. Whichever "ugly duckling" comes out looking the best, wins. And of course, gets the guy. Because, if you don't look fantastic, you can forget about getting a guy.
As if young people don't have enough self-confidence issues without shows like this making things even worse. "Oh, but at these lovely people pay for all this surgery". Fuck them. They can pay for it if they like, but they don't need to plaster the message all over our screens, and humiliate the "ugmos" while they're at it. These people get seriously exploited and humiliated, and it makes me sick.
that eye-surgery is actually, REALLY COMMON among korean girls, like omgwtf common, like walk down street its everywhere common. like omg! but i don't really think its the need to look 'western,' its more their perception of beauty. meh as long as they're hot its all good ^^
Yeah, I hear it's real common.
I asked Exactly, but she hasn't answered... why would they do it? Even if it is just a perception of beauty, it's still clearly an attempt to look Western. Presumably they think Western eyes look better? So much better that they want to surgically change their own?
Was your (=Korean) perception of beauty the same some time ago ( like 30 years)? Of course not, and it's the same with Japanese, Chinese etc. You had your own standards which were correspondent with your own race/nation. Only after the Western world ( not to say American ) started to mix with your culture and life, then the standards started to change ( following one general pattern ). I hate this process because it makes all these good differences between us dissapear.Originally Posted by Icy.Blitz
Yea, Asians women tend to think the western highly, and what I know of Japanese are easily taken in by commercials easily which shows those kind of faces. Having minor changes are ok, but extending too much is so easily distinguished between the others (unless the majority is like that).
Neverless I say those super manga eyes done purposely discusting
Edit: just seeing those pictures, most have their cheeks taken away

and sure asian countries are probably influenced by western countries, but large eyes have always inspired a sense of beauty in Asian communites, from ancient times. it was just a coincidence that western people generally had larger eyes then asians.
but your probably right in that as cultures mix, standards also change. but standards can also change naturally.
you probably don't know this but western societies aren't looked upon 'very highly' by asian societies (its more neutral). it'll probably take you a couple hours worth of history in general to find out why.
