    Default Scripting for IRC

    All of the subsections of the Tech/comp section are help, so this is the only place to stick this thread untill a new sub-forum is created.

    Anyways. You may request for someone to create a script that will do what you ask, or you can post a script, with the full details of what it does, and what IRC programs it will work with.

    Following is a short list of the IRC programs that several people in the #HS channel use.

    KVIrc: Open-source program, constantly being upgraded, stable versions are released now and then, but you can get many different versions with varying and numerous features. Advanced program

    mIrc: An In-house kind of program, free-ware, simple and easy to use, but supports most of the more advanced features. Easy level

    These are the two one's that I can describe off the top of my head, add a desc of the program you use if it's a different one.

    /offtopic/ I have no idea why a thread like this hasn't been made before, on these forums /offtopic/

    you forgot..

    chatzilla.

    and... my favorite-- sysreset.

    =P

    So... can I request someone to make me a script like the !gamble script in #maximumt@irc.irchighway.net

    Basically.. what this !gamble script does is whenever somebody types !gamble they have a small percentage of a person becoming a voice, an even smaller percentage of a voice person becoming a hop, an even greater percentage of getting kicked, and a BIG chance of getting banned for random amounts of seconds.

    Anyone wanna make that for me? ^_^

    Sysreset is an Mirc modification... I'll see what I can do, though I specialize in the Kvirc scripts now.

    kvIRC is a lot more complicated and looks a lot prettier. It has pretty colours, so don't be surprised by that - and as far as I know, you have to turn on the log for every. single. conversation. Which is kinda annoying.

    That's why I use both! ^_^

    Can someone please remind me how to create a text-based script? I've tried but they never seem to work - you know, where someone says something and you say something back...?

    Umm.... first off, I recommend getting the latest Kvirc version, 3.2.3. Once you've done that, the logging feature is simple. Click the wrench without the colorful box on it. Click the plus sign next to "IRC", then the plus sign next to "Tools". Click on "Logging", and fill in the check marks in the box titled "Automatically log". I only log query windows and channel windows, but if you want to log DCC chats and console windows, go for it. While you are here.... check the "Strip colors from logs" option, and change the "auto-flush logs every __ minutes to 0 minutes, so it will be inactive. (I have no idea what your settings for 3.2.0 are... and 3.2.3 changes the menu setup as well as installing over 3.2.0)

    For a text based script, you didn't mention for which version, so I'll describe both.

    For Kvirc, go to the Scripting menu at the top, and click "Event Editor". You'll see a big huge list. To get one triggered by text, find the one labeled "OnChannelMessage". When you click it, notice the numbers with dollar signs next to them. Those are predefined variables for you to use. (For this one $0 (Source nick) and $3 (Message) come in very handy. Right click on this, and select "New Handler". You only have to do this step once, multiple scripts per handler works fine. You didn't mention a specific trigger.... so I'll give you a generic format. Start with an If statement, the condition that when met will set off your trigger. The first thing to decide is how sensitive you want the trigger to be. $str.containsnocase($3,"Trigger") will search the message for any value of "Trigger", regardless of case. this means it will catch "trigger" "tRIGGER" and even "8fufheioefTRIGGER08984fshd". Now, what do you want it to do? I'll assume reply with either a message or an action.

    To reply with a message, type {msg $target "your reply goes here" ;};

    the result should look like this: if($str.containsnocase($3,"Trigger")){msg $target "your reply goes here";};

    To reply with an action (like a /me), type {me "your reply goes here" ;};

    the result of that, should look like this one: if($str.containsnocase($3,"Trigger")){me "your reply goes here" ;};

    For Mirc, which is probably the one you wanted most... and dangit, you made me redownload it. GRRR. (hence why I put it second :P)
    Go to the green button with the red dot. Click on the remote tab.
    Type "on *:TEXT:Trigger:#:", without the quotes. Now, split options here. You reply with text, or with an action. it all depends on whether you type /msg $chan (text reply) or /describe $chan (Action reply) depending on which you pick... here's the generic formats:

    Text reply:
    on *:Text:Trigger:#:/msg $chan reply goes here

    Action reply:
    on *:Text:Trigger:#:/describe $chan reply goes here

    SD, I really really like Kvirc, and again recommend you download version 3.2.3 "Anomalies", then I can walk you through some things with it.
