I belive that piracy now is like Churchill's view of democracy. Bad thing, but all the alternatives are far worse.
I do not mind paying to developers/writers/artists. But I HATE the idea to feed the hordes of managers, lawers, and other... people who have little to do with result, yet bit off the lions share of profits.
I do not mind paying for a disc. But I hate to be a hostage during the talks between two publishers, who argue whether they should translate this movie/anime/manga into Russian or not. BTW -- no positive result for me is guaranteed!
And the price should have some corellation with what I can pay, rather then with "what do our managers need for a new Ferarri"
When I hear the phrase "You can't affort it -- listen to the radio" -- I have terrible urge to give up buying discs completely. Copyright is not the only buissines where customers is milked, but others at least PRETEND that "cattle" has some rights...
So, IF somewhen there will be a way to give creators justly deserved reward, rather then have last pants taken away -- I would not mind living without piracy. Untill then -- they are nessessary to counter-balance things.
about the managers etc., the authors couldn't live without them... to pay a manga you need to pay for the artist, the manager, the company that makes the actual copy, the publicity and so on !
but i agree that actually the problem is that it's more the author/artist that work for manager/etc than the other way around...
about music, i hate the fact that when you buy a cd, only something like 20% go to the artist...... but worse : if you buy it on the net, it's awfully expensive AND the artist earn almost nothing (5% .??) >.>
I can't afford to buy most the legal stuff, and even when i can, i think i'll get it pirate then just donate to the artist/company directly however much I think it's worth. As soon as the managers get paid less than 100k a year i'll consider it.
All forms of government are perfect, it's the humans that mess it up :P
i am a hacker.....NOW LOVE ME OR ELSE IMA HAX YOU ALL!!
its bad yeah i admit, but that doesnt stop me pirating.
thats where i got all my damned music and films from. and anime. and manga =]
For software I think the price is set up for small/big commercial company, education, government and non-profits institution.
that's how they make most of the profits.
That's why we need piracy, how else we can enjoy those expensive original stuff?
also do you think the we will buy 60GB ipod or other mp3 player if we only can afford 100 songs (400MB, it is not even a gig)? of course not.
Well if they lowered the price I might buy it, yeah I would like to give some credits too to the author/artist for them to afford some freakin sandwich for dinner.
and the funny things is in my country it is easier to find a pirated stuff than original stuff.

another funny thing is that you have less problem with pirated stuff than with the originals... (crappy cd protection and such... stupid)

nah, that's true, but if you buy a cd and see you can't play it, or buy some music on the net and see you can only listen to it on your pc, with a poorer quality than a pirated one ? that's stupid.
