    Default Eon8

    http://www.eon8.org/

Lets see...what is it counting down to? A link near the bottom is called "Eon8 deployment tracker." Click it. It shows a map with red dots on it. All the red dots indicate heavily populated areas. What the hell does it mean?

Three of the links you apparently need passwords to enter. If you don't supply one correctly it says "This has been recorded." Theres tons of codes on this website that make no sense.

Also, apparently a website called "VenomGaming" has been investigating this.

Someone made a YTMND all about this. Its a serious one so please I'm not trying to waste your time.

The timer should end at around midnight...what will happen?

Did anybody else notice that when you go into the deployment tracker it displays your IP address, your browser, and your OS. Not that I'm saying it's uncommon because it's very simply to do but it just seemed like a strange detail.
As to the site itself it just feels like a hoax. The bible references, the mysterious codes, the forums posts that were made almost surely just to draw attention to the site. As to what the site actually is I don't have the slightest clue but I highly doubt it's as serious as it's designed to seem. It's probably some kind of joke or trailer or perhaps it's just some really attention starved fourty year old man.

The fact that you can bypass the password protection by simply proxing and the fact that it takes you nowhere really puts points in the hoax column. Either that or the designer has rigged it to loop when dealing with proxys in which case I take my hat off to him.

The countdown is dependent on the users computer which dosn't make sence for something serious.I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a hoax.

I don't know if it's totally dependent on the user clock, just in the individual case. When the person in the YTMND was explaining setting the clock forward he said that when it counted down to zero it reset to the exact time before the clock struck 11. This would suggest that the clock checks against a clock set up on the server in the event of it striking zero. Not to say that it's not a hoax, just that I think it's slightly better written than that.

Must have missed that part, wasn't paying complete attention when I watched it. Maybe everyone gets a cupcake when the timer runs out, the bad news is the cupkakes are really pies. Just a theory

btw the number 8 represents this meaning, taken from wiki (I only put some of them that are interesting)

"Eight ball billiards is played with 15 balls; the black ball numbered 8 is the most important one. Magic 8 Ball is a randomized process of predicting the future or answering various questions, packaged to resemble this ball and often sold as a fortune-telling device."

"Many (mostly historic) computer architectures are eight-bit"

"Eight (八, formal writing 捌, pinyin bā) is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word "prosper" or "wealth" (發 Pinyin: fā). "

"In numerology, 8 is the number of building, and in some theories, also the number of destruction."

"In Scientology, there are 8 dynamics of life. Also in Scientology, the eighth dynamic represents the Infinity, or God."

"The symbol for infinity looks like a fallen eight."

    "
"Section 8" is common U.S. slang for "crazy", based on the U.S. military's Section 8 discharge for mentally unfit personnel."
