The Warriors were better.
And I haven't even seen Snakes on a Plane yet. Though, I have crowned a flying snake the nickname "Snakes on a Plane".

I wonder, is it meant to be tongue-in-cheek? Everyone, me included, seems to think that it's meant to be a serious film.

It looks like its going to be an instant classic just because its called "Snakes on a Plane", and look at how much attention it has got already. Snakes on a Plane is one of those lucky films that may not need to be all too good but it will still be popular because of its name. Much like some of the more obscure "Cult classic" films out there.

From the X3 trailer, I think it's pretty clear that the film takes itself seriously, but that the promotions don't.

I want to see Snakes on a Plane on a plane.

Come to think of it, I want to see United 93 on a plane, if only to get odd looks from the passengers...
