Thread: Maths levels

Just studying....or trying to and well here there's a huge difference between the maths levels. Just because you get A's in ordinary doesn't mean you will even be able to get a pass in higher lever.

This is one of the trickier ones to figure out in the exams. We did it last year, fourth year so we were about a 15,16 year old class.
Is it like this everywhere or is it just cause we're crazy?

That does look difficult. However, you said... fourth year class? Is that like fourth year in highschool? I understand that the school system is very different over there, so that could make a huge difference.

Having a look at it now... I haven't done anything like it but I can see how it works - we've done some similar stuff in my class.... though different... It does make sense, though. =P But then again, maybe it's just me.

that's seems right to me (if it is one of the trickier then that's good (for students ^^)

but it's true that from one year to another the marks can go down very quicly... not because it's a lot harder but because it has nothing to see with what you learned beforehand.... (it's still called maths but meh )

what grade is this? first year senior high school? or last year junior high?
if it senior high this is easy.
Btw in my country, we have 6 years elementary school, 3 years junior (12/13 to 15/16 years old), and 3 years senior(15/16 to 17/18 years old).

I don't know, I only did normal A level maths (P1-3, D1 and M1, to be precise)

I'm from Canada and we only have two schools because we're cheap. =P Well, two levels.

Primary school;
junior infants(3,4 years old)
senior inenfants
1st class
2nd class
3rd calss
4th class
5th class
6th class
Secondary school:
1st year (12,13 years old)
2nd year
Junior cert. state exam takes place at the end of you third year.
4th year(opintional, can go to Leaving cert Applied(more practical) for two years or more up to fifth year depending on your school.
5th year(i'm here at eighteen although most are seventeen)
Leaving cert. State exam based on a point system takes place at the end of year. 7 subjects examined and they take your best six.
A1 grade=100points.
Collage courses have a number of required points.

In terms of difficulty, that is geometry. I learned geometry in 9th grade (freshman year). So... that would mean I was 14 years old.

Some schools around I live teach geometry in 8th grade and Algebra I in 9th grade. My school teaches Algebra I in 8th grade and then geometry in 9th grade. It's all... kinda relative.

I would expect to see a similar problem like that on the relatively Hardest questions of the new Math SATs.
