Thread: American culture and stuff

I saw this in the Hunter x Hunter topic discussion and so thought that it would be cool to further that discussion. Anyway what do you guys think about the American culture. Do you believe it is unique or copied or every other culture meshed together?

um i live in america so i really cant say.. we eat alot of different foods and we do alot of different things.. i honestly do not think we are Uniqe though..

I think it is a culture based on greed and materialistic consiousness. We are unique (mabe, because I haven't been in any other cultures) because we seem to be able to advertise more than is ever necessary.

We also seem to think that we can all be special, even though there has to be unspecial people for the outstanding ones to stand out. We also seem to like to buy a whole lot more than we need, rather than focusing on the things that make us happy.

If something happens to us, then we feel all hurt and hate anyone who isn't sympethetic. If something happens somewhere else, then we have to stick our hands in whether or not we are making the situation better or worse.

We probably have the highest percentage of people who think that this country is the best thing ever, even if those people have never left the country, read about another culture, or even thought about our country at all. These people (of any country) are the bane of the world and should all be shot.

Furthermore, I don't think that we have any other countries' culture in ours, because we are intolerant of all other cultures. See the above paragraph for the reason why.

The only places that have other cultures are kept to small areas that are concentrated in large cities. Any other small towns, villiges, ect. are sanitized against any other cultural influence by close-minded fools.

So in closing, no. We don't really have any other culture's (to my knowledge) influence felt here. We are the unique assholes of the world.

I think it is unfair to say that America (as in the United States) has a specific culture. And rather the culture of America is actually the mixture of thousands of subcultures. For example if you break it down just into states Louisiana’s culture is very different for lets say New York. And then you can even break it down into cities or area. For example Southern California has a very different culture from Northern California.

Anyway, when you say the American Culture what do you mean? But, I guess I would say that the American culture is unique, because even though it seems like it is a blob of other cultures meshed together and well it is but that is because almost every American has migrated her from some other part of the world. With the dream to be free from either the oppression of their countries government or for the chance of a new life (a second chance at life, or to start over fresh).

Sorry for grammar and what ever I don’t feel like reading over it. I should have written more to but I think it is more fun when I leave things open.

However, I think there will be something/elements that make America, America.

Oh, do you mean the whole two continents?

And I didn't say that the States didn't have their own culture it's just a very vauge culture together because it is such a large group of people.

As a rip out of the textbook, I've been taught that American is like a salad, many cultures together, yet each just is unique and has it's own thing. However, this itself makes American unique, even if you have another country like American with it's salad cultural model it won't be the same.

Though I am disappointed in a way in how American doesn't have a very distinctive culture, you know, something like food (not the fries/hamburgers), instead we have people in the Olympics waving "God bless America" fanny packs.

We do have American foods that aren't Hamburgers and fries which are both European. It's just that most American food is pretty simple. Also, I think it is easier to talk about a culture at a specific time period because American culture is always changing. It's hard to define a places culture when it isn't dead sometimes.

XD and its so weird too, seeing that all americans are descended from immigrants now matter how much of a "pure-blooded american" you say you are... oh, all except the native americans though.. ^.^ i think they might be the only 'true' americans, lol.
