"Dogs of War" <---------The title
I wanted a good name, and was thinking about the Shakespearean phrase, "Let loose the dogs of war," and as far as I know that name has not been taken by an anime.
I wanted to make a war anime, that had elements of Sci-fi, ancient history, and medieval times.
The anime will be set in the distant future, with two ruling houses fighting for control of an empire, one of many such empires spread over a galaxy, some of whom will try to spread their influence on the wars outcome, which will make the story more deep and add more political intrigue. I want this place to have hand-to-hand fighting involved, instead of ranged weaponry, so I will rip-off Dune and say that the people of this time have developed shielding that blocks things moving at high speed(like bullets or lasers), but does not stop things moving at relatively low speed(like swords and arrows). And though body armor has improved, so has the technology to defeat it, and swords, arrows and the like have edges that vibrate back and forth thousands of times per second(like the vibroblades from the Star Wars universe) and are able to pierce most armor, given enough force.
Becuase of these advancements in technology, warfare has regressed back to what it was in earlier times, with armies fighting in mass melee's. At this time, the elite of one side, which I will call the House of Wallace, are a group on eight unbeatable warriors and fast friends in specialized armor, who are nicknamed "The Dogs of War." I originally wanted seven, as six was too few to flesh out the series in my opinion if each had their own distinct personalities, and nine was too much, but since I did not want to seem to be ripping off The Seven Samurai, I chose eight. They serve corrupt lords that do not care about them, and after the war is over, they go back to peace and being farmers, as was the norm in early Roman times. The people will get from place to place in spaceships, and drop a la Starship Troopers or invading Vikings off their ship and into battle. The cities will be castle or monastery like, and the colors will range from dark and somber(battle scenes) to bright and alive(castles and fairs). The troops will be outfitted in medieval armor and garb, and will carry the Roman fasces into battle as the symbols of the individual units. The "Dogs of War" will be in special armor, and will generally kick butt.
The enemies in this show are the, hmmm, House of Theophilus, and are generally just as corrupt in the upper ranks, with the common soldiers being decent people. They are fighting over the capitol world of their system, and the main city is nuetral territory. There will be a Romeo and Juliet romance that happens there between one of the "Dogs" and a leader on the other side, causing tension on the battlefield and among this closenit group of friends. The war will end in a final, devestating battle, and one of the "Dogs," the kind and quiet one that everyone likes, will die protecting the lovers, a great blow to the group, and the man and woman will become a couple(I am a sucker for happy endings). The war ends with victory for the Dog's side, but this does not matter to the fighting men, they, as well as the Dog's, go back to the peaceful agrarian life they had beforehand.
I would have this run between 39 and 52 episodes, 26 is just too short. This might sound like "Lodoss War," but since I have never seen it, I have no idea. There will be episodes that go into detail about the past of each character, and the personalities of each, in an effort to humanize them. There will be a few artistic episodes, like one that deals with a kind boy growing up, and the events that lead to him fighting in the war, and his remorse about it, all the while not saying what side he is fighting for, and end suddenly with him being killed by one of the "Dog's" in battle, who thinks nothing of it and moves on.
Ok, that was an example that I came up with in about 5 minutes, but took much longer to properly write down. I know mine is not as good as most that everyone else will make up, it is merely an example of how to explain you made up anime. Post your own anime story, or make comments and critiques about others stories. If you have any additions or changes to make to your anime, after comments have been made about it, repost it and see how people view the revised version.
