a change in threads topics

The "gay porn" is truly to get AKofC's attention, as that hottie is always needed in a thread. And now, onto the meat of the thread: (Hehehe, meat)

I heavily believe in entertainment, as I've mentioned amany a time. Sometimes the cost is irrelevant, but in the case of ST, I decided to be a little "sandy" over the last few days because I noticed a new trend that I figured that needed to be quashed. Sandy, by the by, is a great expression and I would like to know if it was your own invention, or did some older kid tell you that? Those who matter will know who I am talking about.

STD and Aikido have both created numerous topics about nothing in particular that were halfway decent. By going on a little... Bashing... It honed their wit, as I hope that they no longer post so many trite threads that are barely worth taking a look at. They were neither serious enough or goofy enough to warrant a thread dedicated to the topic. Hopefully they will understand the slight irritation they felt is what I felt by seeing such great posters create medicore threads.

Believe it or not, you guys are now the top dogs of the forum as a lot of others have already moved on, or moved back in as seen by that oversensitive "vet". You lead the forum based on your posts, and people will follow suit; stop spamming and others will cease as well. This means there will be less work for the mods, which means we can enjoy their presence a tad more instead of their handiwork.

Apologize for my actions? No, I do not regret them. Explain them? Haven't I?

I'll being by saying that I'm not trying to start a fight with you, Tevesh. You've been kind of harsh lately, but not nearly as bad as you could be, and you have now explained yourself. Plus, you seem like an intelligent guy who's not actually set on offending anyone, just making "improvements."

But really, if you want good topics to discuss, why not just make the threads yourself?

I also think that mediocrity and spamming are bad things, but I'm fairly certain that almost every single poster here has indulged in at least one of them on at least one occasion. I know I certainly have, and I won't deny it. It's not that I spam to raise my post count, it's usually in order to talk about what's being talked about, which (in the case of spam) is NOT the main topic of the thread.

There are a lot of topics lately that perhaps don't need an entire thread devoted to them, but the topics themselves are still interesting and worth a mention and some brief discussion. As far as I know, there is no alternative way to make those posts. Maybe we need a "Hey, look what I just found while surfing the net! *talk about it for five posts and move on*" type thread. I never ventured into any of the old spam threads, but I'm willing to guess that this is too close to them for it to be agreed to. I don't find the thread starters in these cases to be at all at fault, since they're doing their job, in my opinion. They go out on their own, find topics that interest them, and then post about them. It's not their fault if no one here (namely YOU) is interested in them. How could they possibly know that before posting the topic?

So I'd have to say that I support you in your war against mediocrity (but not the thread starters), but that there really isn't very much to be done about it, now is there? If you're going to whine about it, contribute some topics of your own, or make intelligent posts in the threads so that they CAN become involving discussions. The iTod thread, for example, has had quite a few interesting points raised and views expressed in it.

Edit- What makes you think that others will follow suit if the senior members stop spamming? I think there will always be spammers, and that what the senior members do will have no effect on that. I also can't think of anyone who particularly comes to mind as a spammer, so I'd say we're doing all right on that count.

Though.. Tevesh, I personally don't care if they made a billion threads like that. They're entertaining if you felt like clicking them. [I am too lazy to click links most of the time though.] In my opinion, it's better than seeing threads like "What do you prefer: ___ vs ____" or "What's your favorite ____?"

And Tevesh, if you don't like that style of threads, feel free to start many more yourself so we can have long interesting convos. =D

And... don't blame AkofC or Aikido for unattracting the "vets." The other vets that rarely post in chit chat [kaze, vol, marty, and many more] still got ties to ST. They still come in HS. =D

And I've tried the intelligent discussions, they don't seem to work that often. The exceptions to this is the 'nature of post counts' and... Yeah, that's about it.

I agree with CPR on this topic. I stayed away from chat for a few weeks (don't remember why I came back - maybe it was TWG or something) because all threads seemed to be incredibly mediocre and pointless. The way Chat is now is much better than it was then. The new generation has settled in, we're having serious discussions, and aside from the occasional disruption, things are generally pretty good.

Were you there when it seemed everyone was new, threads had no purpose, and no discussion was actually going on? I don't remember. I didn't see you.

The "intelligent discussions" do have idiocy in them, but informed debates do occur. It's when flames begin that the general intelligence - and overall respect - level degenerates. Flames are sometimes necessary, but not where there's a simple difference of opinion - no matter what the topic.

Is Chat as good as it once was? No, probably not. I wouldn't know. I'm still pretty new. I do remember a time when I liked it better. But is this the worst it's ever been? Hell no. Is there a lot of spam? On some threads, but not in general. It's much better than it once was. It's by no means perfect, but it seems a lot of these vets believe it is, in fact, good enough.

That's why they're back. I guess that's why you came back. Even though you're not really back anymore. Or going to read this. But that's really not the point, is it.

as i read that post... two things came to mind...

this is chit chat remember, every discussion can't be some groundbreakind concensus on a topic gently argued by opposing minds. the trend of finding cool news and discussing it is in essence chitchat and thats all me and Aikido are doing. sure i cant make every thread as useful as the Username thread or everyone as "important" as the To The "New" Members thread. nor can any be as funny as my Shit List and Taser Gun thread. there a middle ground and thats what im standing on. ill probably stop making threads sometime this week (kudos to who finds out why) and just resign myself to posting in threads.

i think the obsessive (?) threadstarting is what has revived the Chit Chat section and as crappy as some threads are, all of the ones started by me and aikido (with the exception of the snow in april thingie and then it all dissapearing) are things that can be discussed between people with varying opinions and as long as thats possible then i think the thread has merit no matter what its subject matter is.
