Default The Breaker: New Waves General Discussion

The Breaker: New Waves is my favorite manwha (and the only manwha I read, I guess ) and also the continuation of The Breaker!

After his master (Goomonryong) destroys his ki-center, Shioon leaves the world of the Murim for a normal life to which he believes his master was trying to return him.
But for a boy who holds the Phoenix medallion of the Sunwoo clan and the knowledge of the Black Heaven & Earth Technique, the world of the Murim will come to him...
Feel free to discuss what you think about this series in here =)

A friend of mine got me to read this series, saying something like this might be the best thing ever. Personally I have to say it's good, but not that amazing. The general story background couldn't be more generic for a shounen series (or whatever you call it in Korea ;) ). Altough I have to say, that I'm refering to just Breaker right now. Anyway, what stands out in my opinion is the rather unusual way the author chose for the pacing of the series. You'll have to read several volumes of the series, just to see a decent fight of the main character. Although the series had quite a lot of chapters, there were only 2 or 3 somewhat good and successful fights for Shioon. But that's alright, since it makes sense, considering the fact that he is a newby.

For my taste they are putting too much emphasis on this spirit thing. It's the exact same thing in every fight of his and the enemy is totally suprised by it every single time. Every time the author wants the reader to think that Shioon is done for, just to let him get up again. You can only do this so often, before even the most gullible reader knows, that the main character was, in fact, not just knocked out.

Anyway, this might sound more negative than it really is, but since my expectation was rather high for this series because of my friend, I was a little disappointed. Nevertheless, it's an entertaining series and recommendable for fans of the genre.

    What Tamiel said!

But you can always expect Shioon to keep coming back up, that won't change But I can say that later he can also back it up...

I've actually read all chapters until now (ch. 121 Breaker: NW right now). Since I just recently started reading and went through everything at once, I kinda treat it like one series and don't differentiate between them. Maybe I should have mentioned that more clearly.

Well, now that I look at it, this forum seems to be about the second part, right? At least it gets better in terms of the action the main character itself is taking. I guess it's also important to read the scans of a good crew, that actually makes the effort to properly translate all those techniques, because otherwise it gets confusing as hell, even more so, when you read chapers from different crews, where some translate them and some don't ...

Yeah, good translations at least enhance the your enjoyment of the manwha considerably
And yes, this forum here is for New Waves, but here we can discuss general things, so events from the other manga as well. It's not a vacuum, everything is related anyway!

More than anything else, Shi-Woon's indomitable will carries him forward.
