    Default Zaraki - Isshin connection?

Though this is completely unfounded, I kinda think that Isshin was the guy Zaraki beat to become captain. Again, these are all completely unfounded speculations but take a listen to my reasons.

    1. Isshin (presumably) was a captain. Now he isn't. Why is that? Do people just retire from being a captain? Genryuusai is kind of proof against that but who knows. And I'm pretty sure that Zaraki was the most recent to be admitted to a captain status.

    2. Zaraki's coat is tore up, Isshin has rags of a coat hangin around him.

    3. Zaraki and Ichigo have a fairly important role together. I think that the emphasis put on their relationship and Zaraki's infatuation with Ichigo might stem from some kinda feeling of Deja Vu from fighting Isshin, who i would expect was a potent fighter back when they fought.

As for counter arguments. I realize that in order to become a captain, you need to kill the previous captain, but the way i see it, Isshin is buds with Urahara, who can of course do anything he wants to cause hes a freaking genius. So he probably set something up. I don't really know the time sequence of everything in Bleach so i could be totally off and Zaraki could have become captain long before Isshin could have even existed. Again, i dont know. But speculate, id be interested to see what other people think.

Unlikely; even Urahara can't even bring back the dead.

Zaraki probably became a captain after Urahara/Isshin left SS.

Chuck Norris once challenged Lance Armstrong in a "Who has more testicles?" contest. Chuck Norris won by 5.

I admit its unlikely, but its possible. Urahara could have staged a fight between Zaraki and Isshin that Zaraki was unawares to and smuggled Isshin out of the soul society.

yeah that is probable conclusion. We all know it is impossible for SS shinigamis to just get up and say they quit. The 46 chambers and Genryuusai ain't that nice. After the SS arc we might think that the Heads at SS are nice and generous people but we all know that is false, these people got some really harsh rules. So i doubt that Isshin could have left if not for some kind stage or set-up.

Zaraki doesn't seem like the type to leave his opponent alive after a battle, though, not something that serious and that powerful an enemy... well, not to me, anyway.

nah, he would, as long as he could fight again. remember after his fight with ichigo? he wants to fight him again, and so on and so forth because he loves battle.

If he completely annihilated someone. Or even if he didn't - but he won. Wouldn't he be worried about the captain coming to reclaim their place, especially if he won by a small amount?

Maybe, but Isshin isn't a normal human, so that doesn't say anything for this point.
