You mean Kunieda Ryo? She looks nothing like her - she has straight black hair.

I think so, too. Actually, come to think of it, Ishida is on the opening colourspread too, isn't he? I went on a hunt for his next appearance after that one, and I think I've found it: chapter 27, page 16. Look at the second panel. He's in the background, six chapters before his real first appearance in chapter 33. That's a month and a half beforehand. You can see him again in chapter 29, when Ichigo jumps over the rope. (This is during the Don Kanonji arc.) I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty impressed to find him there.

Edit - Realized that I can't count, and had the amount of time wrong for Ishida's appearance.

I always love it when there are important characters blended into the backgrounds. It makes it really fun when you are just absent-mindedly rereading things later and see something that makes you stop and say "WOW! I can't believe so-and-so was right there this whole time!" Even if it's just a chapter or two beforehand.

well whats great is that each character has a very different but equally important background stories. and its not like in other mangas where it doesnt really have anything to do with them. like ikkaku how he worships zaraki. or rukias and renjis. i dunno maybe im the only one that i likes thats sort of stuff.
