The different kanji come out as getsu (moon), ga (fang), ten (heaven/sky(same thing)) and shou (forgot what this means). Lumping moon and fang together is perfectly acceptable as "moon fang" often refers to a crescent shaped blade (which as we all know the attack is). Personally I prefer Getsuga Tenshou myself as it groups the characters which directly correlate to one another but it can be written all as one word too.

Amusingly my Korean name in hanja which comes out as Cheonseop (going by official romanisation) comes out in kanji as Tenshou

Isn't the Komamura's bankai a "black warrior"? That could have connection to Genbu...

Although I have to agree that animes generally use Japanese folklore, mysticism, and philosophy, I have a biased background against general Japanese

culture. Although I have to say that you are quite accurate in your research.

Interestingly, the dragon gaurdian in Chinese cosmology is the gaurdian of the west and is element metal (synonymous to void), the turtle is still north but

it's water (turtles belong in water not land), phoenix is south and fire, tiger is east and wood.

Ichigo's sword is of the void type, because it literally creates a void in space when exploiting Getsuga Tenshou.
Now I'll try guessing the various captain and vice captain zanpakutous.
1cmd: Old Man: Fire (Buddha's sword)
    1vcp: Butler: unknown
    2cpt: Lesbian: Void (instakill type)
    2vcp: Retard: Earth
    3cpt: Smexy: Wind
    3vcp: Bangs: Earth
    4cpt: Mommy: I think water
    4vcp: Bigsis: can't say
    5cpt: Mastermind: Void
5vcp: Fangirl: Fire (fireball) or Void (magic)
    6cpt: Byakun: Wind
    6vcp: Gangsta: Earth
    7cpt: Baskethead: Fire
    7vcp: Yakuza: dunno
    8cpt: Lovable: Wind
    8vcp: Nanaochan: dunno
    9cpt: Injustice: Void
    9vcp: 69guy: ???
    10cp: Shirochan: Water
    10vc: Pornstar: Wind (probably)
11cp: Berserker: Earth or Fire(if he had a release)
    11vc: Sugarbeast: Dunno (probably Wind)
    3seat: Pachinko: Earth
    5seat: Eyelashes: too weird
    12cp: Bastard: Void
    12vc: Slave: umm...
    13cp: Gentleman: Water
    13vc: Kaiendono: Water
    Rukia: Water
    Ichigo: Void

Interesting theorizing as always. I'm not sure that zanpakuto that are not kidou type actually have elements though. Additionally, are the so called "all-around types" still aligned with an element, or do they bring that into balance as well? Too many unanswered questions.

Pentaelemental: Where did you pull those names from? They were sort of funny, I guess, but seriously, WTF?

Love the names, Pentaelemental. I've actually seen some of them on fanfics.

In Korean mythology the Four Guardians of Heaven have their names translated to:
Black Turtle, Guardian of the North
Blue Dragon, Guardian of the East
Red Peacock/Sparrow/Bird, Guardian of the South
White Tiger, Guardian of the West

Many people lift an eyebrow at the "Red Peacock" and sometimes even bash me telling me it's "Phoenix" but when you translate the Korean "name" of the guardian it comes out directly as Red Peacock, "jakku" being able to be used for peacock. I suspect the "suzaku" is actually "sujakku" as well, jakku literally meaning "sparrow" (or any small bird like a sparrow) but it's sometimes used as a shorter form of kujakku which means peacock. A recent example would be in the latest season of Zoids, there's the Rainbow Jerk. Jerk being a misromanisation of the Japanese characters for "Jakku" and the Zoid is a peacock (or as it says on the box, peafowl).

The other names of the guardians are simply the words for their respective colours and creatures, sei meaning blue and ryu meaning dragon; coming together to make blue dragon.

I'm not aware if they have actual names, this is simply what I was taught growing up.

Is the "sei" thing Korean, then? (Blue in Japanese is ao/aoi... the closest thing I can think of would be the sui~ from kanji meaning water but that's derived from Chinese, Cantonese I think...)

Sparrow in Japanese is suzume, but I don't think it's unreasonable to see a red plumed bird as a peacock or a phoenix. The birds are pretty similar (in my opinion).

About Soukyoukou, it is plain as day that it is Red Phoenix, similar to suzaku. from my own opinion i would probably say that ichigo is the incarnation of Tamonten, protector of the north but that would contradict with the fact Tamonten's counterpart is Genbu which is a black turtoise with a snake head but snakes are famous for trickin people so who knows. But why i would say that He is the incarnation of Tamonten because everything about Zangetsu is dark, the attacks, his character and his speech.

    i found all this at:

if hitsugaya is the incarnation of one of the heavenly guardians then when he was fighting Gin and Gin said "So, its that talent that only comes once in a generation." Then Hitsugaya's eyes lit up...... Ichigo's did the same thing so he could be another incarnation. So far those are the only 2 that have done so so it probably isn't something everyone can do
