first a warning, this thread has a spoiler to what was my personal favorite part of the manga. so... whatever.
Anyway even though he has a bankai, i'm wondering if ikkaku is really at the captain level. He beat that one human hollow (what are those things called?) before the other higher level characters did ( Renji and white haired little shit captain whose name i can't spell). i'd love it if Kubo made put him on a level close to ichigo.

No, just no. The reason that Ikkaku won first is because they told his part of the story first.
In order for Ikkaku to be at Ichigo's level, he'd need to be highly mobile (he's not) and a hybrid. (he's not) He'd also be able to beat his captain easily if he was at Ichigo's level.
i thought his finished first because eduardo was a weaker hollow. for the record i do think ikkaku is stronger than renji. on a side note is what hitsuyga(?) is using his shikai or his bankai? i don't remember him ever attack with his bankai, but that doesn't look like what he fought gin with

However I agree that Ikkaku is nowhere near Ichigo.Plus his oponent was probably made from one of the lesser hollows(what is that name?)Other captains are probably fighting again oponents made from Vast Lords(If you consider their human shape)

Ikkaku is not on Ichigo's level. Why, because there is no way in hell Ikkaku will beat Kuchiki. And I doubt hes fast enough to even touch Ichigo and im pretty sure Ichigo has a significant amount of destructive power as well.
Ikkaku vs Renji...There's no evidence suggesting who's stronger but it seems like Ikkaku had his ban kai before Renji. But I dont know if Ikkaku had his ban kai when he fought Ichigo.

Ikkaku had his bankai when he fought Ichigo. Otherwise, Renji wouldn't know about it. He's been a bit busy with activities such as losing repeated fights, healing from said fights, and carrying around Rukia to take the time to chat with Ikkaku.

The thing with the different names is that when KT wrote them in japanese they are treated as foreing words, so the literal translation cannot be made until KT himself writes the name in our caracters.
