Wow I would really like to know how you explain this. I don´t think he used spain because its one of most spoken language, even though it isn´t widely spoken.

For example germany, they like germany, not because of ww1 or 2, but they like our culture, Goethe, Schiller, Bach (well even because of positive prejudices) thats why our countries are strongly bond with eachother and they use so many references to germany in games, manga.

I think theres another connection why he used spain, but we won´t know till he answeres this question in an interview.

Well guys there are a lot references of the spanish language and spanish and latinoamerican sulture trought all the bleach series:

- The hollows masks: they are quite similar to those used in Mexico to celebrate the "Día de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) wich is on november first.

- Chad's mexican background

- Menos Grande: just like a normal souls is a plus, these creatures are known as MENOS (minus). Since there are three grades of menos, the gillian add the adjective GRANDE, because they are larger, so the name MENOS GRANDE.

- The Menos grande have an ability called "Cero" or as other scanlators used 'Hollow Flash'

- Hueco Mundo: is the place were the hollows stay, it literally mean "Hollow World"

- Conquistadores: this was the name of a series of the last chapters, it makes reference to the spanish conquerors that went to South America and slaughtered all the cultures over there. On a side note, the silhoute of the mask of the vasthrode shown in shadows, is exactly to a conqueror'r helmet.

- Arrancar: It means to take off something with violence. And as the they took off their mask, this name is appripiate for them. <-- this is just speculative as the name of the 'arankaru' hasn't been written by KT in our characters.

- The Arrancar wear clothes that resemble those of the spanish "Matadores" and "Toreros". With the "Chaquetilla" and "Fajín".

- The Arrancar swords reminds me (at least Yami's and Ulquirra's hilts) of the spanish swords's used during the "Conquest"

- The Arrancar have a hard skin called "Hierro" which literally means 'Iron'

- Yami used the word "Suerte": lucky.

- The last chapter was named "Mala Suerte!" or 'Bad Luck!'.

- The Arrancar are numbered and they introduced themselves with spanish ordinal numbers:

- Grimmjow: Sexto Arrancar (6th)
- Xiao Long: Undécimo Arrancar (11th)
- Edorad: Décimo Tercer Arrancar (13th)
- Dee Roy: Arrancar Dieciséis (16) <-- not ordinal

As you can see, as the shinigami has an 'feudal japan ' theme, the hollows has a 'spanish' theme.

- Pesquisa: is the ability that tha arrancar used to find the people with reiatsu in Karakura. It translates to something like: "a search"

OKay, so we find someone who FINALLY notices the Spanish in Bleach, and we have a big discussion (like the kind in those anger management classes) about it. Cool. It's cool. I don't think you're crazy. Really.

But then, someone goes "Well, I find that it makes a lot more sense to use Spanish than French or German... seeing as Spanish is the third most used language in the world" which has fucking no relation to how Spanish is found in Bleach... well, no logical relation.

So, we have Ocasas, who is kind enough to give you HOW and WHAT the similarities are, etc, etc, etc. His post clears up alot, but doesn't answer the question. Now, the question from the beginning was:

"What's the deal with all the spanish references in Bleach?"

Right?

To actually find the answer, we'd have to pry into the private life of Kubo Tite, whom we find to have alot to relate with the "Wild West" and "Central Americas"... Zombie Powder is one, but for all we know, the reason Kubo tite knows these stuff could be the same as how Shakespeare knows how to write a complete monologue in perfected French.

Simply put it: "Just go with it, foo."

To me it seems, that the Spanish is more a nod at South American countries then it is at Spain. The Day of the Dead theme certrainly is reflected in Bleach a lot, isn't it?

I should have phrased my question better because it's obvious that some people got the wrong idea what I was asking. The question, after unraveling my mind from that post midnight haze would have read: Why does the Kubo Tite use the Spanish language as the only other language besides Japanese in the Bleach series?

It took way too many inflammatory posts to get to the answer: he hasn't answered it in an interview. This answer came from Crazytype, who ironically posted that he thought this thread was pointless. So I guess it did have a point. The other answer came from ecchisama who brought up a really good point of an interview with Kubo Tite and his experiences in Central America.

The other point was to spot where else the Spanish language was used and this would logically seem to establish a pattern. Of which ocasas did a really great job. So it seems that the "Hueco Mundo" and it's inhabitants are loosely based on Central American culture.

I know it says newbie under my name, but that doesn't mean you have to act like I'm some sort of trash. Or that my questions of the Bleach series are crap. You don't think this thread is important? Then don't post in it and it'll die.

well , to put simply i m from argentina, and i know a little about this words, pesquiza is for example when the cops search in your house for drug is an intensive search and arrancar(verb) is literaly to rip off something

Nobody that this thread is not interesting, but it is pointless to ask a question nobody can answer.

I think there are some things we just just accept and enjoy.

I'm not exactly fluent in Japanese...but i'm wondering how he writes some of the spanish names in japanese, like that one with two "L"'s and a "Q."
