As for what I think, I'm just guessing it uses her blood as a weapon or some crap like that.

Unohana's bankai is merely a representation of her virginity lost.

Her bankai looks like it melts everything but who cares about kenpachi I want to see more ichigo story

I was about to say chances are the creature, Minazuki, was probably her Shikai.... but then it JUST dawned on me (as you guys are pointing it out) that it seemed like it was meant to be her Bankai in the beginning.

When it was first introduced Kube seemed to be more along the thinking that "Someone's Shikai is the true representation, usually more ornate, version of their weapon (or in general shikai are small) but their Bankais are the true physical manifestation of the Zanpakutou's spirit, usually more gargantuan" kinda though. Basically size mattered more in the beginning of the manga. That though seemed to be prevelent in the way he emphasised the surprise, through character's reaction, at the noticeably smaller size of Ichigo's Bankai when compared to his ginormous Shikai. Further more when Isshin was first introduced having regained his powers and telling Grand Fisher that they (Shinigami) shrink and seal their Zanpakutou as to keep their true gigantic size manageable for everyday battles.

The way I see it I cant remembered seeing anyone else's Zanpakutou manifesting into something so...alive in their Shikai form. More grandiose displays of power, via a Zanpak.'s abilities, were usually reserved for Bankai mode. So to me, at this point, I am guessing that Kube changed his approach to things surrounding her ability and that she had indeed been one of the first Captains we've seen use Bankai, just out of battle (or did we see her release it? cant remember for sure), and that her Bankai has many (if only 2) major abilities. Minazuki the creature's stomach acid has healing abilities, so maybe she can use a techique similar just instead of healing its just a super corrosive acid for offense? Like Tsunade's slug? No clue...still incomprehensable at this point. Just though it was funny that when Minazuki was first introduced not much debate was given as to whether it was a Shikai or not. Most, myself included, just assumed Shikai. Although if Kube said it was her Shikai in a databook or something then thats just...an oddly large Shikai to begin with >_>.

P.S. Speaking of Captains with vague ass Bankais what was Gin's? I think that was a fail Bankai as well right? *Looks up Bleach Wikia*
