That's his shikai ability. In soul society he passed off his shikai as just the additional blades because in the 11th division it is considered cowardly to have a kido based zanpakuto.

And while they're all fighting at the pillars, the Espada and the Captains are going to have a staring contest. XD

I think if that was really his bankai there'd be a 2 page spread with just the two words on it. Like Kubo always does...

The ending was very Yu Yu. I enjoyed it. I am glad someone won by ability, instead of just being stronger.

I thought it was cool actually seeing Yumichka fight, it was just a shame it was against such a lame fraccion. I love how he and Ikkaku hide their abilities so they can stay in the 11th under someone as crazy as Kenpachi.

I assume that the rest of the fights will be short too except for Izuru's who it looks like might actually get some character growth out of this.
I enjoyed it but I tend to enjoy seeing the more disposable characters fight. We know that Ichigo won't die in any permanant way so his fights have no suspense. But the four pillar guardians could easily be disposed of for no real reason other than story roadkill.

Have to say that in the end this has been one of the best fights through out the manga. Not too long, but a good long for most fights. And as Henchy stated, winning by ability, not just being stronger, or too stuborn to give up.

it's definitely the shikai. if it was bankai, the person would say "BANKAI!" and there'll be huge animation and whatnot.

yeah exactly. all is meant by when he says "split and deviate, Ruriiro Kujaku" is that he is using his Kido based attacks in shikai form... which if anyone saw would result in him getting kicked out of the 11th division.

That, and it also explains why he won so easily against Mr.69 in SS so easily. I also think that he "absorbs" some of the power that the shikai absorbs... remember how Ikkaku stated that he looked diffrent after the battle, like he took time to clean up or something? Anyways, one down, three to go. I want Izurus' fight to be next.

it was kenpachi, and yes, yumichika was all energetic after the battle. most likely he'll get to absorb all that soul energy, which means all his wounds will heal up and he'll be ready to fight another battle.

then again, i doubt they'll send anymore soldiers to fight the pillars if this fails.
