look, think about it this way, if this was an RPG game, ichigo would have like 5000 hp and chad would have like 1000, if chad gets to 20 hp, he's almost dead, if ichigo gets to 200 hp, he's also almost dead, if orihime can heal 1000 dmg in one casting of her shun shun rikka, then one cast is enough to heal chad, but to heal ichigo she'd need to cast it 5 times. Now in the human world, chad would be able to withstand a lot more damage than ichigo(he shrugged off a steel bar that fell on his head) but in the spirit world, ichigo has more reiatsu and since you're dead when your reiatsu is gone, ichigo can take more damage than chad.

I know it's not an rpg game, but the same principles generally apply in a shonen.

This small part about searching for Vasto Lordes - was it what I think it was? A Vasto Lorde attacked Noitora while he was arguing with Neil and she saved him somehow?

^ Ummm, You fell short of the mark. It doesn't look like a Vasto Lorde attacked the duo, but several massive hollows (an armor-plated arm, talon, furry leg and some unidentifiable splotch) that could be adjuchas assaulted them. There's no way Nell could take on one Vasto Lorde anyways. Out of all hollows, Vasto Lordes have the same size as humans, as well as looking the most human out of all the various hollow forms ever existed., and the appendages described above certainly aren't human-sized or human-like.

He's still wearing them, this time they place little emphasis in this battle since their ringing is meant for weak opponents to determine Kenpachi's motion and counterattack. Nnotoira certainly isn't terrible at fighting, so he doesn't need to hear out for Kenpachi, especially in a giant, open desert-like plain (with some ruins) compared to the narrow SS pathways where the pre-bankai Ichigo encountered Kenpachi.

So does this confirms that those numbered arrancars aren't Vasto Lorde?

As of yet, Bleach has not shown that to be true. I'll accept Orihime's healing abilities being different between Ichigo and Chad the moment we see Chad actually take less time than Ichigo to recover.

On the bells thing, does anyone else think it would be funny if Ken was out matched to the point he actually cut his hair to remove the bells? Just imagine for a sec Ken being bald or with a bad hair cut. Spooky with the right "style".

^A bald Kenpachi? Pffft. At least Ikkaku shoudn't feel so bad about his hairless condition now that he'd not be the only bald guy in the entire list of characters. I don't suppose Kenpachi would like having his hair cut, though - he's obsessed with tying his bells to his hair-spikes, and that "it doesn't feel right" if he doesn't do it (seen in one of the anime's Shinigami Goldens).

Well, yes and no. A Vasto Lorde, as stated by Hitsugaya, is capable of laying waste to several captains at once even when not arrancar-ised, and if Aizen manages to get at least 10 then SS is screwed. Thus, it's safe to conclude that anyone with a lower rank than Ulqiorra (firmly believed to be a Vasto Lorde what with his mask matching the portrayed Vasto Lorde silhouette's mask shape. It's only strongly suggested, not confirmed though.) isn't one, as they all got their asses kicked (with the exception of no.10 Yammy. Come out, come out, we want to see you die now, fat pig) by individual Shinigamis, except for Nnotoira who got kicked around first by an awakened Nell before Kenpachi steps in, but since he couldn't handle several large hollows (adjuchas?) in that memory flashback of his he's definitely not a Vasto Lorde. If Ulqiorra is a confirmed Vasto Lorde, it's safely assumed that the 3 remaining espada above him in rank are Vasto Lordes as well, or exceptionally talented Adjuchas.

I accept what alex99lee said. And I confess that I am not good at noticing details. But regarding Nell saving Noitora, it would not fit her character if she killed a hollow just because that hollow decided to kick Noitora's ass in revenge for wiping out an entire settlement. So, if we accept that Nell either escaped with Noitora unconscious or talked the hollow into neutrality/joining Aizen it is still possible that the one who attacked Noitora was stronger than Nell. And then it all comes to the physical appearance of the attacker.
