In Bleach, we only see the Vaizards don their mask before fighting, never releasing their soul slayers save Ichigo.
However, Ichigo uses bankai, then his mask, in that order, everytime.
I was wondering, what would happen if Ichigo donned his Hollow mask, then used bankai? would the release be any different? Maybe it's the way for him to reach a new power level?
Sorry if this has been already done, just wondering...

I'm fairly sure the Vizards will have a special technique, probably turning into their Hollow forms. It'd just be a bit lacking if they only get a power boost and some Hollow skills like Cero.
why's that lacking, all arrancuar's get is a power boost and shinigami abilities, (which is only sealing their true forms and powers in the sword)
It's just felt like it was taken from Dragonball Z - whatever they are Trunks and Goten would be stronger if the went SSJ before fusion or would it not change anything...
...we can't say. Mangaka has absolutely free hand to do whatever he wants in this field. Although it would really be a theory aka DBZ or Naruto with his training the same thing after cloning himself hundred times...
hmm well I think that their "powering up thingy" is like multiplying their strength kinda like
ighigo-normal =1
+mask = *10
+bankai =*2
and if it is multiplied it makes no difference!
1*50=50*2=100
1*2=2*50=100
and no the power increases are not to scale

I might as well state my theory from before: These are Shinigami taking on Hollow attributes and powers. My theory from the afforementioned arguement was as follows: If they were to equip their masks, and then go into Bankai state, as it seems we haven't seen this as of yet, they may actually transform much like their Arrancar counterparts.
If you notice that level of difference between Shinji's mask and Ichigo's, it may have occured that their potential "hollow forms" are vastly different from eachother. (Like any other Plus that degenerates in this story.) Therefore, I wonder if the mask isn't simply the start of the start of the transformation. (i.e. - the catalyst, but not the substance.)
That form of Ichigo we saw before may have actually been a hint at what would happen if he were to lose himself after equipping his mask; or more obvious, if he were to somehow transform into a hollow regardless of his Shinigami state.)
Which brings forth a very important, and a very (are you actually reading what I'm writing?) question: If Ichigo's body were to die, just walking around the shopping district and got shot, would he immediately be just a Shinigami or would it effect him?
