that's interesting... i wonder if the mask is now permanently stuck on then ? ichigo's in full control of his vizard mode though (since he protected orihime). not too sure what happened, but seems like a good development.
on the other hand, grimmjow is disappointingly weak... it just looks as if he got a speed boost from his released form. i hope there's more to him than that.
Do you even remember how much he got his ass kicked the first time Ichigo let his mask out? The difference in power now is like... almost totally nonexistent. They're more even in this fight than anyone else in any other fight... I think.
~ Ichigo coulda made a deal with the Horse so that horsey could play, but that he had to put Orihime first if anything happened.
Kurosaki's Vizard form is faster than bullets...
That would explain the seeming personility conflict.

I think his hollow is out and in control. Other explanations would be sorta SSJ4x3^2457984 again. Maybe the fact that its still Ichigo somewhere in there is what is stopping him from letting Orihime die. Maybe he just wants to fight Grimmjaw with nothing between them. Waiting impatiently for the next chapter though...
Kenpachi once said that he and Ichigo were actually alike in many aspects, only that when he (Kenpachi) fights, he relies solely on the instinct of fighting, and enjoys every moment of it.
Grimmjow defined the line. He was a hollow, no matter how human he seemed, and his oppnent, Ichigo, was a shinigami, and there was no prisioners between sides.
So if you take Ichigo fighting on a higher level of instinct against an opponent that's clearly an enemy, then it's possible that he is in control of himself and that it is his level of fighting instinct that allows him to keep the mask, since hollows are pure instinct.
...I think it might be wishful thinking at this point for seeing his hollow, especially since HM is the place for him to grow in his hollow potential, just as SS was a place to grow the shinigami aspect.
The emergence of the hollow all on its own will probably be reserved for a more dramatic turning point in the latter story.
That'd be bs though. A little bit of instinct shouldn't be able to change him so dramatically. If anything... blegh... he could be fighting for Orihime's sake, and the thought of not wanting to fail before her eyes pushes him toward a higher level... once again, Blegh.
Hopefully, I'm right, because then we'll get to see the Hollow side in canonic form... and we'd see where he stands against released Espada.
~ We'd also see how Byakuya measures up (based on his vs. Ichigo strength) against the Espada by comparing how much more one got his ass kicked than the other.
I think Ichigo is just giving in to his will to fight. He has always been saying that he doesn't really like fighting, but in this fight he's kind of going fuck it. I'm going to enjoy this.
Thus you get a better hybridization with his hollow, allowing him to keep his mask on for longer.
Bottom line is that He's trusting the hollow side more and more. The hollow is leaking more and more of his reitsu type (more I guess menacing than what Ichigo's normally is and of course hollow feeling). Thus you get Halibel saying it felt like a fight between espada.
Whose version are you reading? My translation doesn't mention that at all.
Anyway, I'm loving Orihime and Ichigo's relationship right now. She loves him, but is afraid of him being a monster? GOLD!
a little instinct is bs for improving strength? Going feral in a fight (utilizing your instinct) doesn't improve your strength at all?
So berserkers (who are all instinct and madness) are just pretending to be weak most of their lives and get their asses kicked on purpose? Anyone who utilizes instinct over intellect will achieve a momentary power boost. And if you learn from that boost, then you can use it later at free will (a process we call "getting stronger").
