i'm with irecinius and adonai. I think the stripes do mean something, or kubo prob would have painted ichigo's mask all black stripes on the first one.

or, he's really inconsistent and doesn't check his previous works. but with popularity like bleach, it just can't be some inconsistency.

oh, whatever. and how is this relevant to this chapter?

    I agree with irecinius.
It might or might not mean something.
Would be good if it means something (more depth and story maybe) but somehow I doubt it.

Glad to see my comment about the mask is being taken somewhat seriously! I appreciate all the work you guys did, and your opinions on the matter.

Personaly I do believe that the mask means something. If you guys read enough shonen to see the pattrens, heck manga in general even, a wardrobe change for something relating to a charactors power (a new sword, sheild, armour, spell, gun, focus, ext.) usually means an upgrade/change to that power. Slowly but surely somthing is happening to Ichigo, and I belive that it has to do with his Visard powers. As far as the "refining" argument goes, my best example to refute this is look at Rave Master. The charactors in book one are still very simular to book 20, but at the same time vastly diffrent in the details. This happens in Bleach too. The thing is no matter what, even with their weapons, when the change is made to the items relating to power, it is either a minor change (adding 1 stripe could be considered this, not changing half of an item) or a major change that influances the power (a major change, like how Ichigo gets a new version of his robes in Ban-ki, or a new weapon). Another good example based on an item that looks simular but is vastly diffrent is in Black Cat when Train gets his new gun (either time).

Anyways, in the end I belive this gain in power is what he is going to need to beat GJ, which is why it becomes relevent. No one can argue that the mask is a major source of power for Ichigo. If Ichigo's power source changes, then his power changes too. How is what I want to know.

Once again, thanks to everyone for the disscussion.

i don't think the increase in the number of stripes has anything to do with kubo's improvement in artwork. its more like a message to tell you, that, with the increase in stripes, Ichigo dominated this ability. back when he had less stripes, he didn't know how to control it. but now that he has, more stripes. kinda like how you're awarded with medal as you grow in rank in the army.
    Do I have to?

I kinda half agree with that. The number of stripes increase means more like Hollow Ichigo getting more powerful with time. I dont think it has anything to do with Ichigo controling his ability ( hmm and actually "controling his hollow" might be the right wording there )

Edit : Hey that make me think about something, now that Ichigo can control his hollow means that he would improve faster, no ? Since Hollow Ichigo powers up at least twice as fast as Ichigo....

maybe stripes are an indication of the level of control he has over the mask form(time limit),like stated above^
if thats true maybe we'll see stripes all over the mask.
if we dont see any change, then ghost is probably right.
what do u think ichigo's time limit is now?i'll say its definitely more than 11 secs.
