    Default About Rangiku?

I have a question about Rangiku's zanpakutou; What does it really do?

The only thing we have really ever seen was her releasing it and... showing the aftermath of her fight with Izuru Kira. (She won)

The ash like appearance of her "Ash Cat" (Haineko), to me, seems a bit like Byakuya-sama's Senbonzakura.

Any more info / corrections on me?

we don't know, there's your answer, but if you want to go by the anime, what she has is essentially a sword made of steel/iron sand that can change shape. And the shape doesn't seem to be limited to shapes of weapons. So yes it is similar to senbonzakura, but with less range and smaller pieces I guess since going by the anime it seems to be linked to the hilt, while senbonzakura is moved by thinking.

why don't we know, didn't it show pretty clearly in the anime and manga? Its similar to senbonzakura, but where his turns into petals, hers is much more fine, like a dust a believe, and she controls it by slashing with the hilt. Which is why Kira's release, (making everything weigh more) was useless once she released, and she proceeded to beat on him proper.

well, even when we saw her release it twice (once against kira and once against the arrancar), we weren't able to really figure out...were we? i'd say itz a good guess that it takes form of something else or maybe stay like an ash and attack as the fine little ashes. but srsly, i dunt get how the anime got iron sand from ash -o- hope we see more of rangiku soon in the manga

Here is the answer to you question. Jeez people should pay more attention.

Rangiku's zanpakuto is Haineko (灰猫, lit. Ash Cat). The guard is in the shape of a cat's head, as its name suggests. Its initial release command is "growl" (唸れ, unare).

In its initial release, Haineko's blade dissolves into ash, which Rangiku can then control. The ash can cut through objects as easily as a sword would, similar in principle to Byakuya's Senbonzakura. In Bleach: Heat the Soul 3, the ash that Haineko produces can form together into a cat or leopard-like animal.

Rangiku has not yet mastered the final release of her zanpakuto, though she is trying to learn it; however, Haineko is just as moody, lazy, and selfish as Rangiku is, making progress difficult.

you are all a bit off, i'll explain:
her sword, when relesed, turn into metallic dust, which increses her slashing range and speed(she slashes the air and the sand do the same thing)
it NOT like senbon sakura, it cannot create such shapes or block with a shield(cause it's still sand).
    so in conclusion:
+when the blade is turning into sand the sword becomes VERY light weighted(cause it only a hilt) so she can fight very quickly.
+increses range by quite a bit.
    +cannot be blocked
    -she can't block either

Sand probably isn't the right word for it. I'd say it's more like ashes or super-dense fog. Other than that, we haven't been shown very much detail in it's actual usage and abilities have we?
