I think that spatial freeze was put up to prevent the fact that if a soul was caught in the crossfire, they just wouldn't be completely destroyed, they would remain until the freeze was over, then cross to soul society or something.

Actually the point is to freeze space so that the shinigami can come in after the damage is done and repair without anyone noticing

"While number 11 and above are ranked by time of birth, the numbers 1-10 are ranked by strenght"

That was the statement, right?

I think you could read that in two ways.

One meaning that "ranked by strenght" referres directly to the number 1-10, therefore making 1 the strongest.

The other meaning that "ranked by strenght" referres to all of them and that for 1-10 the strongest are choosen.

I think the second would make more sense, because of the tatoo thing.
If someone is lost you have to fill the space. If the next strongest arrancar is weaker and strong enough for the number other espadas have to switch numbers. Or if someone gets stronger he may have to switch numbers with someone.

In the second scenario, you just have to fill the open slot with the next strongest arrancar available. Nobody has to switch numbers that way.

My logic tells me that this would be a much easier way of dealing with this.
Most of them probably know who the strongest is. Would he really need the number 1 as proof.
I doubt it, but who knows.

Just my two cents.
Pardon me if my spelling is crappy or I didn't manage to explain my point logically (the reading it two ways part).
I've been awake for 30 hours and it's starting to get to me

Is that manga finally finished? The last thing I know is that it took forever to release the next volume (could just have been the case for germany).

Ju-Ni has it as:

based on the order of their abilities they were given a number from 1 to 10.

if adonai is right then it would mean that there's no particular order in which the espada was given their numbers right? yay!.

If it's true that Espada are ranked randomly 1-10, then is it just pure coincidence that the so far the weakest Espada happened to have the lowest numbers?

but adonai you said "based on the order of their abilities". Is abilites referring to their strength or the skillset of each person.

e.g. ichigo's bankai = speed

perhaps unique "abilities" were of use to aizen so he recruited them as esapada?

it doesn't really matter either way tho. *chants* next chapter, next chapter ;O
