Default Is tousen stronger than the espada?

Looking at tousen's performance in SS.. is he really fit to be aizen's 3rd in command? I mean okay we've seen some power when he took off grimmjow's arm but overall he cudnt make grimmjow cower like the little wussy he is like aizen cud.. And ichimaru as 2nd in command wud be ok..but tousen?

It put it simply, we do not know. He might have gained uber power right after the SS arc, or maybe he just caught Grimjow in a surprising moment. Either way, we have no idea of what his power is as of right now.

I think sheep power level matters less for a character like him as with his abilities he could proabably take out people more powerful, yet less experienced.

Hmmm...you know I never really thought about it...I just figured that Kenpachi was stronger than all the espadas...

It's possible that Tousen did not show how strong he really was back in Soul Society to...ummm...keep a low profile among captains?

I agree. Judging him by his fight against Kenpachi is unwise.

Kenpachi was probably a bad matchup for him.

So he is stronger than we think.

hmm, not sure if I can agree that Tousen was hiding his strength. Remember that Tousen is not evil per se. He believes what he is doing is in the name of justice, and Tousen loves him some justice. When fighting Kenpachi he declared it in the name of justice, I don't think he would hold back in such a situation. Besides he looked generally surprised that his bankai didn't effect Kenpachi the way he thought, and he looked pretty scared.

i really think it probably was a bad matchup, I mean tousen's bankai vs ichigo = dead ichigo, ishida? dead ishida, chad? duh, komamura? dead komamura etc. I believe kenapchi won, because not only is he built like a tank, he's also been fighting without any special abilities for a long time, which means he must have pretty good reflexes and overall fighting skills(I mean real fighting skills here, not 'my sword is gonna kill you with its awesome ability that never misses' skill)

That's true...anyone else would've been completely freaked out by Tousens bankai. Kenpachi doesn't fear death so yeah....It was a bad matchup.

the only way i think anyone besides kenpachi could survive a bankai like that, is if they had something with a huge area of effect and just like filled up the whole bankai area, so i think some more of the captains could beat him simply because they could attack in huge areas, some of them having a greater chance of sucess than others, the only one i think who could beat it by pure swordplay/reflexes is kenpachi.
