Well if Kubo Tite is putting them through all this training you know he is planning something in terms of power growth or new form of it.

Just when we thought bleach had enough active fighting characters ... giving karin powers would be a wrong move in my opinion. Would we see the same training techniques as used on ichigo? would we then see her become a vaizard?... all seem like bad and repetitive idea's to me.
Bleach does indeed have more than enough fighting characters. But, something to realize here is that she wouldn't have to join up now by any means. In the Winter War arc, the author will have numerous chances to kill off characters. Indeed, if he really pushed it, he could probably prune down the primary cast to 15-20. A skeleton crew of surviving captains/vice-captains, the main characters, and a few others.

In fact, if the author chooses to continue the story, I hope this is the case. It would allow the bringing in of new blood and create vacancies for existing characters to enter the major cast who were unable to be given full coverage previously. Killing off 60% of the old cast is a lot better than letting them fade into the background, imo at least.

If this were to take place, then Karin could easily slip into the fighting characters. If you assume she is approximately as strong as her brother would be without his inner hollow and has the explosive growth rate to match, she would be anything but a waste of space on the battlefield, and could realistically enter the top 10 or so remaining fighters. In the case of a possessed Ichigo arc or something similar, she could even assume a very key role in the plot.

Basically, don't diss the possibility of having Karin as a shinigami until you've thought about it.

Yeah... musings completely unrelated to your post...

Bleach merges with 20th Century Boys, in other words? Wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea, though that would probably mean so much Bleach that the entire earth would dissolve (or at least be bone-white) before the series finished.

Most likely Aizen either wants here because

    A) He's lonely
    B) She holds the key to opening the spirit gate
    C) Hostage
    D) Healing power of reverse time

As for her powers, I just classify her powers as human emotions.
Or, since Hueco Mundo sonds like a really hard place to live, he might want something cushiony or squishy to sleep on...

I find Orihime and Chad's powers laughable. Chad seems powerful, but it seems like when he wins a battle (like against Baura) it appears like the writers are just making him win. Orihime's power's are even more of a joke. She's like a white mage. She's only good as a support role. In a battle even Hanataro would probably be able to give Chad or Orihime a run for their money.

And the I-beam to the skull. That was funny.

Chad has great physical power, his spiritual power just needs to catch up to it. Orihime is shaping up to be the series's chosen one, so we might as well get ready to put up with her getting mega-boosted in strength.

Sheer power is not a very special power, and it doesn't matter if he can catch an I-beam if he gets blasted with a kidou attack or such.

Yeah, they'd have to make him as strong as a captain....which is hard to believe. XD
