IRC sites like gotlurk
I haven't used IRC for very long time but with recent problems of hosting websites, I think I should prepare to use IRC again. Sadly my favorite IRC site gotlurk and its irc bots are not operating anymore (and it doesn't seem like they will going back anytime soon).
So I would like to ask if anyone knows some download portals like gotlurk. I know some smaller IRC channels but their manga collection is no where near gotlurk
Thanks a lot
I feel you man, but another reason to have an irc server for rainy days is, if you should "fall over your usb harddisk and lose 500 gb worth manga+anime.
Long ago I used to download only by IRC. Back then gotlurk had almost every manga that were available on the net so it really saddened me to see the site closed. Naturally I can go to scanlator groups' IRC channels to download new releases but it is the old releases that concern me. Like you said, I lost all my manga and anime collection more than one time due to hard disk problems so I want some back ups.
Again, I am very appreciated if someone could tell me any site/channel like #lurk.
P/s: I have been around online manga communities for more than 10 years and saw lots of sites come and go. Though not as popular as before, it's nice to see stoptazmo is still alive.
yes, its over at evil-empire [such great place T T]
It's indeed very sad that Evil Empire is over. It was among the best manga download portals in recent years.
So again, does anyone know a good IRC channel like #lurk or download portal like Evil Empire? I am using mangatrader but there are some really good manags missing from their collection
Btw, it seems online reading is the more popular way of reading manga now but I still prefer to download manga to view offline as some kind of collectable and I also noticed that most online manga reader sites don't have many good old series.
I am not sure you are going to find another #Lurk or Evil Empire. I just think that a lot of people who used to run those kinds of sites have left for other things, they are out of favor with the younger kids today. It takes a lot of disk space and bandwidth to host so many manga series so you are going to find that a lot of sites do not have all of them. You might have to constantly monitor the sub/translators home pages, check it once a week or so like I do for Naruto.

Most of them were scanned years ago and scanlator groups had disappeared while new online reading webistes don't host them and younger kids don't even know them (such as shame since they are quite good). And neither stoptazmo has them (understandable though since they are not popular thus not cost effective to host them).
True it costs a lot to run these kind of sites but for Evil Empire, it was kind of maintained by community (uploaded mostly on third party hosting site by members) so I was hoping to find some similar place.
Well I guess there is no country for old men after all
