Thread: problems downloading

I have just bought a new laptop and are now having problems downloading irc files. I have been using Mirc for years now with no problems at all. on my new laptop is windows vista premium and my antivirus is norton 360.
The message says

Internet explorer cannot open this helper application for irc (and gives the server)

The protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct, and try again

I have tried a number of servers and channels and had no luck

The problem is a vista compatibility issue. The next release of mIRC should fix it (how the fuck, I don't know... doesn't sound like a problem on their end, but whatever).

It should be noted that this is a Vista/IE7 ONLY problem. If you install firefox, then install mIRC, you should have your URL handlers working correctly.

The IRC urls are just shortcuts. Just start mIRC and do it manually.
For example... link is irc://irc.myserver.net/bingo

In mIRC, log onto the server irc.myserver.net
Type /j #bingo

All you need to worry about is the server and the channel.
