Is there a tutorial anywhere for getting to #lurk on Trillian? I'm absolutely IRC inept and I can't do much without a specific step-by-step guide.
Thanks much.

*only here because she uses Trillian*
See if either of these threads answers your question:

If these don't help, could you please outline the issue more clearly? Is it setting up the connection to the server, getting into the channel, or the downloading that's giving you trouble?
Cold-NiTe also uses Trillian. I haven't tried using it to download anything, but if he says it's no good, I believe it. What version of Trillian are you running? That may make a difference.

I guess I'll just use mIRC instead. I'm thinking trying to set up Trillian is more trouble than it's worth.
Thanks anyway, though.

There is a pretty good guide to setting it up. Just sub the server in for what you want. Also don't forget to open port 113 in your firewall and router for IdentD to run. Also you need to forward download ports as with a normal IRC client.

That too...
As far as DCC goes... as far as your concerned, the commands Lurk gives you will work. Other commands may differe in trillian, but /msg is there. COMMANDS:
http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/ir...reference.html
Hope that's up to date... meh, anyway. Opening the download ports for Trillian may be a bitch. I don't know if Trillian tells you what ports it's using, allows you to change them, etc. Basicly, you'll have to find out (Or maybe a Trillian user can go looking through the advanced options and find it for us. *pokes Kaom* <and I spelled it right too>). I would guess they are using 1024-5000 like mIRC, but who knows. Check your router and firewall logs when you try and download and see what ports are being constangly pinged whenever you send the command.
For my money, I just want to say while it should be possible, if you want to do anything other than talk on IRC, I don't recomend Trillian. Get Xchat, KVIrc, mIRC, HydraIRC, or any others that are around.

Grr. Making me work. (But after you spelled my user name right, how can I refuse?)
I hit the Trillian FAQ to get the ports for you, and found this much:
http://forums.ceruleanstudios.com/sh...threadid=35182
Then I poked around in my copy of Basic to attempt to find out about IRC. Looks like you can specify which port you want to use for outbound transfers. Then I poked around on the Trillian forums and found this, which mentions ports 1024-1027 (yes I looked through the whole thread - seems like more people had problems with ICQ than IRC). So looks (to me) like the default ports should be like mIRC's.Default Ports
Here are the default ports that Trillian uses:
MSN
Connection: 1863
File Transfer: 6891
ICQ
Connection: 5190
File Transfer: Dynamic unless specified
AIM
Connection: 5190
File Transfer: 5190
Yahoo
Connection: 5050
File Transfer: 80
Webcam: 5100
Jabber:
Connection: 5222
File Transfer: (automatic by default)
And I'm going to second Volvogga's recommendation. If you're just chatting, Trillian is great. For downloading, not so much.
(Although I will mention that I talked to someone running Trillian Pro and they have no problem downloading from IRC. I'm not sure if Pro is just set up to handle it better or if they configured it to work. If you're looking at Basic though, which you most likely are since it's free, don't bother with it for IRC. I don't know anything about Astra since it's new.)
[Aside - Volv if any of this tells you more about the ports...I couldn't find anything in my advanced preferences for them. I actually don't know anything about ports, really, so that doesn't help. Here's another thread from their forum, which was unfortunately never answered, but those might be the ports you need, I'm not sure. Here is another thread that was answered by an administrator, but they just sort of say to use whatever you want? I'm more than slightly confused. Meh, here's their forum if you want to give searching a go. "IRC" and "ports" may have been too general, I'm not sure. Sorry. >____>)]

Yay!
Thank you Kaom.
Yeah, I think you got it right. Start by opening port 1024 and see what happens. If not, set outbound transfer and try allowing those ports.
Hum... Looking at all those threads, I'd say you got it. So frick'n weird. :S
Also, if you want to learn about ports, I tried to explain them in the BEFORE YOU ASK FOR HELP thread. Don't know if my explination makes sense... no one's been my guinnea pig for it yet, but it's there if you would like to look. XD
