Thread: How to Super Seed

aight first i dont even know what super seeding is, but i have a problem with my Azureus, i have a file ive been seeding since June that i want to KEEP seeding since i am the only seed and it still seems to be active but for some reason i cant get azureus to give it the time of day, it just sits at the bottom of the list even tho its the only CDing-only torrent i have active and gets a constant speed of Zero. first i thought it was because of the seeding rank which has been steadily decreasing until it hit rock bottom ata 99999 a couple weeks ago (which is when the speeds went to zero) yesterday i tried messing with the settings to get it to a 1st priority but i only succeeding in getting it no seeding rank at all. is there any way i can continue seeding this file and sharing it with the community?

well... is there any chance that the torrent has expired? if you are not getting any speeds chances are it really isnt an active torrent, you should probably just recreate it and post it on whatever tracker.

i dunno every two or three days the number of seeders varys and theres a constant number of about 7 leechers... i dont think the torrent is inactive but then again... im not even sure what im doing.

You force the seeding. Right click it and should be a forced start option.

Now, super seeding is confusing. I'd also like to state that all you had to do is google it, as it's in many BT clients. XD

Basicly, it's for if you are the only seed, or there are very few seeders (like... 3). For the initial seeding, it increases the performance and bandwidth thriftyness by sending a little here, little there... as opposed to bursting here, there, anywhere there is a connection. With super seeding, your basicly going to upload the file once, but in such a way that your leechers (or main leechers... something like that) will all have a certian piece, and your client will be keeping track via the tracker that they have been shareing these pieces. What you end up with, is that once you've sent the complete file once, you should have several more seeds pop up within a matter of seconds to a few minutes. Something like 4 or 5 right in a row will appear.

When this happens TURN SUPER SEED OFF. With too many seeds, it decreases the torrents performance. It is for innitial seeding only.

That said, SD... sounds like you have a network/ISP problem. Like no connections are being made. Check your firewall logs, and maybe try changing your ports.

wow that was an old post.... uhh Vol i figured it out, the torrent i was seeding got ALOT more leechers and thus mores seeders (went from me being the only seeder and having like 3 leechers to now like 7 seeders and 30 leechers) the freaking seeding rank is bobbing up and down like a raisin in soda. some days its in the 8000s others sitting idle at 99,999. anyways when i got cable and now that there are more leechers on the torrent its up there and im uploading like crazy... bout to pass 20 gigs of data uploaded. =D thanks though!

I know it was old, but I thought it should be explained for those who still didn't know. After all, having it unnessisarily on can hurt a torrent.

oh then thanks again anyways... oh btw, i didnt see it but is there a quick and easy tutorial for giving each of my internet using programs its own port on my router? i heard that was a good way to increase speeds and productivity while multitasking.

I haven't seen one yet either. I just started going through this section. Networking isn't my strongest area, but I've been getting better at it, so... what the hell?

Anyway, I would assume you just go into said programs, find their ports, change them as you wish, and then forward each port on the router to your IP. Make sure they are open on your computer firewall too... or that the programs at least have proper rights.
