Yeah that child was supposed to be how Femto is manifesting itself outside The Godhand.

Or at least that's what everyone has been assuming ever since Guts vs. Zodd after Alpion.

Aaaand, before reading more of Berserk off the internet, I used to think the Isidro action figure was Guts as a kid, and that his adventures as a wee one would be more expanded, and looking at that on Hobby Japan I'd go: "LOL, Baby Guts!"

But no. Instead what happened was Donovan. X=(

You know how evil spirits can possess people, transform their bodies and make them do crazy things?
I think its the same thing here. Reborn Griffith is basically like the Daka: A fetus (Gut's child) inserted in the astral world (swallowed by the egg thing, the inside of apostles are connected to and a part of the astral world) possessed by an evil spirit(Femto).

yeah i think when griffith got a new body for the real world so did guts kid, he wasn't used as the thing to manifest griffith in the real world because he was only picked up out of sympathy at the last moment by the egg apostle, he might have influence over griffith since they were in the same womb thingy but thats another theory.
Personaly I think that the kid on the beach was guts kid after being reborn in the real world with griffith.

@ Daimoon: Guts and Casca's kid really was used as the body in which Griffith manifested himself in the normal world, he states it himself. vol 22, chapter 3, page 70 (of course, the number of the page varies according to how your files are named).
Griffith (touching his chest): Beating... faintly, high and shrill... In the blood... I thought was frozen.
Griffith (next to an image of the baby): Is this... my vessel, the baby I took... are these his thoughts?

And the kid has influence in Griffith's actions, in the same volume, Griffth saves Casca and after he's gone with Zodd, he thinks about the event and an image of the baby is shown, as if to represent that action was due to him and Griffith being one.

So here's my theory; thinking the feelings of the baby could be a possible weakness, Griffith separated himself from the child, after all, he's matter now and he's part of the Godhand (if Inuyasha's Naraku could do it, so can Griffith, huh?). And the separated part would be the child Guts and co found, which protected them and had a bit of a resemblance to Casca. Emphasizing once again, this is just a theory.

That's my reading of the situation too, but for some reason I don't find it very convincing.

I want to know what's going to happen! FUCK! Hurry up, Miura!
