    Default Berserk after the Eclipse

    Hi, guys,

I've heard people say, Berserk is become worse after the Eclipse.
Most of them say, it's because of the magic...

And now, when I think about it, it seems to be true. BUT - I think, the main difference in the quality is not due to the magic. It's rather that in the beginning the story is more "dark" and therefore more authentic - the main character is being raped, Griffith is crippled without a turn back, many important and good constructed characters die (like Judeau), Casca goes insane, Griffith betrays people he loves the most.
So, after these things, most of which have no return, there starts a story after the Eclipse - and there are no victims at all any more (except for the witch, but she is new to the reader and has not very much importance). The group is travelling happy around, killing monsters and allways winning...

Now, I don't say I like blood shedding, and especially not, if it comes to main characters... But - life is not allways a happy journey. I think, Berserk is after the Eclipse starting to be boring, because the story after the Eclipse is trying to satisfy the reader (who might stop reading Berserk out of desparation, if some main characters die). It's following the same concept as Hollywood flicks... Wtf?
I would not be allways happy, but I would like to read a good authentical story...

    What do you think?

I agree with you. I still love Berserk, but I acknowledge that it needs some new drama to cause some more character development and enhance the story. Lets hope that they reach Elfheim quickly, because we all know something dramatic is going to happen once they get there.

I have the same feeling actually, i still enjoy but not as much as I used to, then again it had to happen for the sake of character development. The whole dark atmosphere was enjoyable and all, but it didnt have as many characters in the story back then and the plot was still pretty small scale compared to now. I just hope the writer will bring back that old dark atmosphere, and hopefully not continue with the shounen elements that it has now.

But for me the problem lies more in the recent pacing and long releases between chapters. Casca's memory arc has to end very soon, at the moment the plot is pretty straightforward and boring IMO.

Hopefully I havent pissed of berserk veterans

The characters in the manga now are too nicey nice.

Guts was a lot better when he was out for himself and trying to kill Griffith, now he's just focussed on getting Caska's memory back. The little witch and the whiny kid also do my head in, I'm hoping one of them dies relatively soon

I think the problem is that some of us, like me, read the Golden Age arc without waiting for new releases and stuff, making it more enjoyable to read. It might happen that having to wait for the chapters kills the whole reading atmosphere. I still like Berserk, but I remember at some point saying that it was getting boring.

Hm, I understand your point. But almost all the chapters after the Golden Age arc I read also without waiting for new releases. To be honest, 293 is the first chapter I wait for ^^
So, it isn't the problem with me (still might be with others).

ahaha but i think magic is necessary in it because guts was dealing with supernatural being no mortal can match up to that hehe it and since guts suffer critical wound he was just save by healing LOL anyways it kinda getting boring since longer release and make reader waits yeah that kid has no use maybe hell die next ahaha

As a linguist, I've got to point this out...

The adjective "bad" in English is irregular, here is why: English has inherited the Germanic system of synthetic comparative and superlative adjectival forms, but it is mainly used for words of Anglo-Saxon roots or other monosyllabic or duosyllabic words. For longer Latinate words, the analytic form of comparatives and superlatives needs to be used (e.g. adding the word "more" and "most" before the adjective, which remains unchanged itself.)

    Regular form:

    Tall, small, quick, happy.

    Comparative form:

    Taller, smaller, quicker, happier.

    Superlative form:

    Tallest, smallest, quickest, happiest.

For the irregular adjective "bad," it goes like this:

    Regular form:

    Bad.

    Comparative form:

    Worse.

    Superlative form:

    Worst.

"Worser" does not exist in modern standard English, although it used to be acceptable in Elizabethan English (Shakespeare uses it a number of times.) There, now you know more about adjectives!

...Now that I got that out of the way, I do agree with you. Berserk's atmosphere gravely changed right after the eclipse... or perhaps it is us somehow connecting "the good old days" of Berserk with the span of the anime? There is more magic now, the characters are very different, and the story is not as meaningful as it once was (this is strictly my own opinion, however.)

You've really got kein Mitleid with me ^^
Thank you for the small Engl. lesson... I try to memorize it, but I cannot promise not to forget it.

to be honest i think it is to do with the fact that guts is being slowly worn down and that in the golden age arc he was almost constantly fighting and improving, he seemed a good character now he is like hospitalised and on a ship where he can do almost nothing.

if you think back it's not after the eclipse its the current arc with them on a ship not able to do anything story moving apart from magic development.
