Thread: Just how much more magickaly juiced can things get?

Enchanted weapons, cursed armor, powerful summoning spells, demon armies, thing is, I'm really enjoying the direction Berserk seems to be heading in with it not coming off as overly cliché. The fantasy elements have enough substance to them that they avoid coming off as being cheap and hollow, while stilling managing to carry a definite style and feel all their own.

What else do you think we'll see done with the magic later on? The dragon slayer being engraved with powerful runes perhaps? The other weapons being upgraded? Farnese pulling off some big spells of her own? Guts' getting his metal arm enchanted?

... The dragon slayer getting some cheap runes of it would ruin the sword. As the thing with that sword is that it's just a fucking lump of iron with almost edges.

those magic weapons which the side characters recieved just to boost their powers was rather lame, i personally enjoyed the fact they fought with their own abilities not some homo fairies coming outta their swords. Serpico was perfectly fine the way he was before even if he couldnt slay demons like Gatts, he had lots of skill and strategic ability earned through hard work.
Thats one of the things that makes Berserk so good is power that is earned as i dont have anything against that little witch girl, as she trained in magic and now that holy chick is learning magic which is fine aslong as she gains power over a period of time through hard work.
Though i can only see that holy chick getting more magic spells to aid Gatts .. support spells i would think since she admires him so, anything else magical happening would be that little kid with the fire sword as he is weak (he should die, why does Gatts have to like him...) so he might get a ranged magic weapon since he shouldnt be in close combat

@ the people bitching about too much magic: in case you haven't noticed Berserk is all about magic, it's just that the main characters haven't used it much until recently.

And for logical consitency more magic is inevitable. Hell, the Big Bad is a goddamn Demon Lord who could eat entire armies for breakfast if he was so inclined. How are you supposed to take down something like that without magic on your own?

I have mixed feeling about the magic .. for example I enjoy that all of them got some weapon/item to help them fight instead of them being all useless, But if the pattern of Schierke fusing with some element to save all their asses continues it will start to get annoying.

Sorry, but I'm one of those people who enjoyed Berserk without all the magic crap - on the side of Guts, at least. He was cool because he fought armies and demons and everything else with his own human strength. I don't mind Puck, but bringing in that little witch girl and the Berserker armour made me very unhappy. Not only do I find Schierke (or however you spell her name) to have an annoying personality, she's also taken Guts' awesomeness by needing to save him. That's not Berserk, that's some other true-power-comes-through-friendship manga.

As for Farnese, what the hell is up with her? She was such an awesome character before she joined Guts and wanted to learn magic. What the hell. Why couldn't she have picked up a sword and become as awesome as Caska had been before the Eclipse?

Since when are demons and magic inevitably tied together? I for one think bringing magic into berserk is his way of drawing the fights without much effort. I initialy got into berserk because it was one man going up against the impossible. It was a story wraught with misfortune but guts still kept on going. And now he has cutesyish sidekicks (excluding Isidoro cause he pwns) that are throwing a wrench in the gears of the story's flow. I guess my main complaint against the magic is that it makes the whole story too easy. Making it seem as they arent doing anything hard. Guts doesnt actualy do anything much anymore its mostly the sidekicks killing lower grunts until there is an aposile that needs killing and then the story gets good again only to fall when magic comes back into the story as a last resort. They could at least cut back on how much magic is used in the story.

Guts' sword, the dragon slayer stopped being a normal weapon a good way into the series. Bathing in the blood of apostles so often resulted in it absorbing demonic power, Claiming that it's just a big sword that he uses really ignores why it's become such an effective weapon against otherworldly creatures.

There's enough magic by now, any extra... i would not like it. If you see demons you can asume there will be magic so i had it coming, and it's ok by me, but don't let Guts use it :<

He is (or was) one exception, doing everything by his hard earned strenght, kicking ass with a huge sword without needing help. I have seen quite a lot of "with the help of my friends i can do it" stuff by now and Berserk was doing quite well without it, why turn it into a life lesson of "you can't do everything yourself"?

Guts should stay as he was, no need of magic (maybe a little bit) and being capable of holding his own ground without too much help. He had managed with only Puck using his powder every now and then.

I just hope no more magic comes by. It's enough with Schierke and the magic items around.

On The Dragon Slayer being magical, yes it is. But it wasn't created as it, or got enchanted. It just happened too be a biprotuct of killing apostels and evil spirits with it all night long. And if being abit of an asshole I'd more say that it's become demonic more than magic.
