Thread: Brand and Sacrifice Questions ?

Just rereading the series and had a few questions/theories come to mind.

1) Is it possible to remove the Brand ? In chapter 24 when Guts is talking to the witch she states it's beyond her power to remove it ,but never stated that it was impossible. (could have been a translation glitch ?)

2) Sounds like Guts can make a sacrifice ? Chapter 26 when the female God Hand has Guts in her wings and is torturing him she askes if he wants to make a sacrifice like him (Griffith) and even shows pictures of a Behelit in the cave taking shape right before the Skull Knight saves him.

The reason I ask these two questions is the story seems like it might be heading in the direction of Guts having to choose between sacrificing Caska for more power to kill Griffith or Fighting as he is.

Also the division between Guts and Caska keeps growing and who's to say how much more it might grow if she regains her memories. The seperation might bring the dark side of Guts out we have seen before making it that much easier to sacrifice her.

Open to opinions and theories. P.S. Before I get flammed remember these are only theories.

About your second question, I don't believe guts can use Caska as a sacrifice, but I'm not certain. v3ch2pg28 goes like this: "You can't use that" (guts as a sacrifice) -- "W..why?" -- "He was once a sacrifice." From this I interpreted that once a person is sacrificed, they cannot be sacrificed a second time. Meaning Caska can't be sacrificed again. So maybe Guts has to choose a close person that is not Caska, but is close to him, someone from his new comrades, someone in love with him...the witch!

Well, there is no canon answer, so we can only speculate. Since the branding is done by Void of the God Hand, it seems plausible that a being more powerful than Void should be able to remove the brand. On the other hand, the God Hand is pretty much on the top of the totem pole when it comes to power in Berserkverse.

As for question 2, Bulgai has it right. Sacrifices cannot be "recycled". The manga is pretty explicit about this.

Try rereading Volume three. That should clear up question 2 for you.
